Hello everyone

CrackerJacks

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. Let me introduce myself. I am CrackerJacks. Recently I got one NAAAAASTY trojan virus. It made it so my computer was too slow to use. As good as Sophos anti-virus is, its only good for viruses. I then started to search for some malware protection and I found this! I heard great things about it so I decided to join. I am doing my first scan on it in fact. Right now I am using the free trial version and if I like I (which so far I do as it has detected A LOT) I am planning on getting the full version. Hopefully this scan gets rid of everything causing the slowness as my computer never was so slow before. I wish I found malwarebytes before I tried fixing the problem myself is my only regret.

Welcome CrackerJacks:

From one Jerseyite to another...

Either it is a virus or it is a trojan.  Just like you have a Chevy or a Ford.  You don't get a Chevy Ford sedan.

Just like some Chevrolet and Fords are automobiles, viruses and trojans are both malware.

Sophos is not on the top of the anti virus application list and there are better anti virus applications that work with MBAM to broaden your overall anti malware protection.

Hello and welcome, CrackJacks!

You might want to consider getting some free, expert help with checking and cleaning the system.

Some malware hides very well and requires use of multiple special tools for complete removal.

This sort of work is best done with expert guidance -- many of the tools are quite powerful and can damage the system, if not used correctly.

If you would like help, I suggest that you might want to please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.
It explains the options for free, expert help >>AND<< the suggested, preliminary steps to expedite the process.
A malware analyst will assist you with looking into your issue.

Thanks,

P.S. Switching anti-virus applications mid-stream on an infected system can be problematic. So, if you are considering changing from Sophos to something else, it might be advisable to wait until you have completely cleaned the system. <just a thought>

Thanks for the suggestions but I am going to keep Sophos for the moment. Also I think I found out why my computer was running so slow.  The scan just finished and here are the results

Malicious items detected: 6

Non-malware items detected: 422

Well I think I know what I am going to purchase soon.

Hi:

My suggestions have nothing to do with changing anti-virus products. (I was merely following up on David's expert advice.)

MBAM will *probably* take care of all of the PUPs and the malware.

But -- in some cases -- other tools are needed. There's no way to know without seeing your logs.

The help offered here is free, even to computer users who do not have paid Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

If you would like expert guided help checking the system, I would suggest that you please follow the steps here: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers

(We do not work on malware-related issues in this particular section of the forum.)

But it's up to you. :)

Cheers,
