I need help regarding external HDD.

Recommended Posts

Guys i recently formatted my PC and installed Windows 7 on that so here is my doubt. I have a external HDD which contains my movies, music, my files and some software's and my PC's backup and i don't know that whether my HDD is infected or not. Right now i installed the OS and Malware Bytes Anti-Malware. If i plug in my external HDD and if there is any kind of malware present inside the HDD the MBAM automatically removes the malware right so is there any way not to remove the files which are infected in my HDD.

All i need is the files which are infected and present inside the HDD should be cleaned off malware and so that i can copy it into my PC. I don't want that malware to enter into my PC nor i want that mbam to instantly remove my imp infected files as soon as i plug in my HDD.

Hello and :welcome: :

Yes, you can use MBAM to scan the external HDD, but it will be a slow process.
MBAM will not "automatically" scan the external HDD, because the user needs to perform a "Custom" scan to scan that type of drive.

It's really a task better suited to your anti-virus (AV).
MBAM runs best with real-time protection, and with Threat scans of the OS boot drive, which are designed to look for malware in all the common places.

If you need, free expert help checking for malware, I suggest that you might want to please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.  It explains the options for free, expert help >>AND<< the suggested, preliminary steps to expedite the process.

ALSO, for additional information:
There is an FAQ Section here: Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions
And here are links to the MBAM 2.0 User Guide: Online and PDF
And there are many useful KB topics and videos at the helpdesk support page

Thanks,

>>P.S. Question: is this a work computer, by any chance?

Nope its not a work computer and all i need is to remove the malware present in my HDD but none of the file present inside the HDD should be erased but the malware should be.
