Malwarebytes Premium 2.041028 on Windows 7 64 bit alerted me earlier that it could not update its rootkit drivers (or something similar to that) and recommended I reboot. I rebooted and it immediately launched a threat scan...but it was odd in that the background of my desktop was all black. Is that normal? It found no malware.

When the scan finished, I closed MBAM and was left with a black screen and mouse pointer. I clicked the mouse and the pointer disappeared and I was left with just a black screen. It was a bit worrisome, so I hit alt-ctrl-del and it brought up the screen in windows to let me logoff...I then logged on  to my account and it seems ok. Is this normal?

Secondary question...if I ever have to re-install, is their a way to save my existing settings by exporting them to a file or saving the existing settings file?

Thanks in advance

Difficult to say after the fact. Could have been corrupted memory or an application crash or many other things. If you continue to have an issue though please let us know.

Unfortunately there is no approved method to keep your current settings in this version if you use the clean removal. If you reinstall over the top it should keep. I will mention it to the development team though.

Thanks

Good morning, I received the same message this morning and same exact situation as the original poster. My screen went black while Malware Bytes was doing a scan.

The error read this exactly.

Error: Malwarebytes was unable to load the Anti-Rootkit Driver, Error code: 20025

Do you want to continue the scan without the rootkit support?

I chose yes then a red error box appeared saying this:

SDK Scanning Error: 20025

Would it be best to do a uninstall/reinstall of the product? I originally bought a cd version of Malware Bytes through Newegg.com a while back.

Hello and :welcome: :

Until AdvancedSetup returns....

Yes, that particular error is often resolved by cleanly reinstalling MBAM.

However, rather than using your CD (which likely contains an older, outdated version of the program), we suggest carefully following the steps in this tutorial:

  • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
  • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
  • NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here - Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Hello and :welcome: , RitaLaur:

Each computer is unique.
Problems that sound "the same" often are not.  And the solution often needs to be individualized, as well.

If performing a "clean reinstall", as explained >>HERE<<, does not resolve your issue, please start a NEW, SEPARATE forum topic using this clickable cjfj.png button.
The staff and experts will be able to more easily provide both you and the OP with individual help to get you both up and running.

Thanks for your patience and understanding,
