FBI moneypack issue

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I recently came across a website claiming to be the FBI and locked down my browser. I ended the process and have not seen it since then (can safely login to admin profile in safe mode and normal). I have run malwarebytes and hitmanpro (the latter installed after the virus attack from the infected pc) to no avail, they were unable to detect any viruses. Some issues I encountered were;

1) Malwarebytes 'scan for rootkit' encountered an error forcing me to restart after which it worked.

2) I was unable to access my antivirus (free Avira) as the option to open it was not present when right clicking the icon ont he tray. The restart also seemed to have resolved that.

3) Some lag occurs after logging into admin profile and task manager freezes, forcing me to reopen.

While not completely locked out as traditionally seen by PC's affected by the virus I use the computer for banking and would rather not risk it. I have 3 hard drives attached to the PC, 2 storage (1 external/1internal) and 1 hard drive split into 2 partitions (one for WINDOWS and the other for Storage/general use. Im happy to reformat the partition with WINDOWS however the other hard drives contain important research information (and of course personal data) that i would rather not lose. Is there any way for me to remove the virus if any, by formatting JUST the partition with WINDOWS?

TL;DR - Infected with virus/malware. Would formatting parition with OS and reinstalling WINDOWS get rid of the virus and the storage hard drives/partition be unaffected?

Hello,

They call me TwinHeadedEagle around here, and I'll be working with you.

Before we start please read and note the following:

  • Limit your internet access to posting here, some infections just wait to steal typed-in passwords.
  • Please be patient. I know it is frustrating when your PC isn't working properly, but malware removal takes time.
  • Don't run any scripts or tools on your own, unsupervised usage may cause more harm than good.
  • Do not paste the logs in your posts, attachments make my work easier. There is a More reply options button, that gives you Upload Files option below which you can use to attach your reports. Always attach reports from all tools.
  • Always execute my instructions in given order. If for some reason you cannot completely follow one instruction, inform me about that.
  • Stay with me to the end, the absence of symptoms doesn't mean that your machine is fully operational.
  • Note that we may live in totally different time zones, what may cause some delays between answers.
  • Do not ask for help for your business PC. Companies are making revenue via computers, so it is good thing to pay someone to repair it.
  • If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.

:excl: I can't foresee everything, so if anything unexpected happens, please stop and inform me!
:excl: There are no silly questions. Never be afraid to ask if in doubt!

Hi TwinHeadedEagle,

Thanks for the prompt reply. Just letting you know I'm having issues with downloading TDSSKILLER. I clicked on your link and have also tried to go directly to the kaspersky website. It directs me to 'Page not found 404 error' Would you like me to proceed with combofix in the meantime?

To follow up, Kaspersky TDSSKiller ended up working and you will find the attached logs. I got 2 logs from TDSSKiller. Despite disabling malewarebytes and avira real time protection from your links, Combofix seemed to delete a avira related file from appdata. This caused my computer to restart. Will that pose any issues?

Also when should i re-enable avira and malewarebytes?

PS. sorry i got TDSSKiller working before i saw your message

Thanks a lot for your help so far

They seem to have re-enabled themselves. My PC appears to be back to normal however the Avira dashboard (see attached picture) is once again missing the usual icons to open the antivirus. It can be accessed through Start>StartAvira though so i suppose it is just a glitch.

Just some final questions.. can i leave combofix installed? It quarantined some items in C:\Qoobox. What would you like me to do with them? (ive attached a combofix-quartined-files.txt that sumarises what is in quarantine).

Thanks again!

The Importance of Software Updating:

In order to stay protected it is very important that you regularly update all of your software. Cybercriminals depend on the apathy of users around software updates to keep their malicious endeavor running.

Operating systems, such as Windows, and applications, such as Adobe Reader or JAVA, are used by tens of millions of computers and devices around the world, making them a huge target for cybercriminals. Downloading updates and installing them can sometimes be tedious, but the advantages you get from the updates are certainly worth it.

Recommended additional software:

icon_arrow.gifTFC - to clean unneeded temporary files.
icon_arrow.gifMalwarebytes' Anti-Malware - to scan your system from time to time in search for malware.
icon_arrow.gifMalwarebytes' Anti-Exploit - to prevent plenty of mostly exploited vulnerabilities.
icon_arrow.gifMcShield - to prevent infections spread by removable media.
icon_arrow.gifUnchecky - to prevent from installing additional foistware, implemented in legitimate installations.
icon_arrow.gifAdblock - to surf the web without annoying ads!

Post-cleanup procedures:

Download DelFix by Xplode and save it to your desktop.

  • Run the tool by right click on the 51a5ce45263de-delfix.png icon and Run as administrator option.
  • Make sure that these ones are checked:
    • Remove disinfection tools
    • Purge system restore
    • Reset system settings
  • Push Run.
  • The program will run for a few seconds and display a notepad report. You do not need to attach it.

The tool will also record healthy state of registry and make a backup using ERUNT program in %windir%\ERUNT\DelFix
Tool deletes old system restore points and create a fresh system restore point after cleaning.
