Hi. I've had Malwarebytes installed on my new win 8.1 machine for a few months now. All of a sudden, today, it won't launch/run. I have tried uninstalling, but I get the same error message I'm a premium user.

0xc0000279

So, i can't run it nor uninstal it. I've seen a few posts here with the same problemas me, but the solutions seem to suggest running all sorts of anti malware apps from all sorts of other sources, which I find a tad suspicious. I'm 99.9995% sure I have no other infections as when I ran MWAB a day all was ok.

Anyone know how I can fix this? (chameleon doesn't run either)

Thanks

Steve

Hello and :welcome: :

Routine troubleshooting starts here:

  • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
  • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
  • NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here - Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

..and when I attempt to run frst.exe, Windows says it's prevented it from running as it may be harmful! :(

So now I have an anti malware app that won't run and a supposed diagostic tool that Win 8.1 says it shouldn't be run! this is getting really scary! what's going on?

Personally, I think this is a problem with MBAW and not an infection. There's no other evidence of the PC bveing infected, and it was all workng OK yesterday.

:(

Hi:

I'm sorry you are having such trouble.

These tools are downloaded and run 100s of times a day here and at other computer support fora.

(You might have to temporarily disable your AV to run FRST.)

If you are unable to run any of them, then it suggests that you could be infected, or that you could have other serious system problems.

Diagnosing and fixing the problem will require a deeper look at the system and other tools which are not permitted in this section of the forum.

Such work is conducted in a dedicated area of the forum or at the help desk.

It's entirely up to you. :)

But if you would like further assistance, then I suggest that you please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers.
It explains the options for free, expert help >>AND<< the preliminary steps to expedite the process.
A malware analyst will assist you with looking into your issue.

The helpers in the malware removal section and the help desk will have other diagnostic tools/scanners to try to determine what's going on.

Thanks again,

Thanks again for taking the time to reply. It's very much appreciated. The PC is not infected as I ran a scan just before close down 48 hours ago. I still think it's a problem with the Malwarebytes app itself. As you'll know, others have reported an identical problem with the same error code and I seen lots of advice on different apps to run to check the devices. It seems strange that a number of us would all experience the same issue across a similar time frame. I haven't seen any solutions though! :)

I'll take your advice and try the 'Available Assistance For Possibly Infected Computers' route.

Cheers again

Steve
