Explorer.exe won't run after trying to deal with virus

Kick off fresh FRST scan. Can  you boot to Safe Mode?

When you see cursor at black screen, can you do something with this, can you right click or ctrl alt delete to start Task Manager?

I can't right click, but I can ctrl alt delete and start task manager. 

 

Before we started this, explorer didn't show up in the processes, but it does now. Would it be worth trying to end the process and start it from "run"?

In task manager, click on Applications then on New Task , and type appwiz.cpl

 

Uninstall Spybot and Microsoft Security Essentials.

That's not working. Pop up window closes and then nothing happens.

Also now when shutting down via ctrl alt delete, it's asking to install updates whilst shutting down. Should I do this or ignore updates and shut down without installing?

Choose startup repair. Follow instructions and when it is done try to boot.

It also said could not find a problem.

it says if you have recently connected a device remove it and restart (I haven't connected anything except flash drive when instructed).

Boots to black screen again.

I shut down, restarted, ran startup repair again, same thing.

When you power on your PC, press F8, then choose Low Resolution option and see if this will help.

When you enter Task manager, in New Task option, try to type Explorer.exe

Pop up closes and nothing else happens.

Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool
 

This fix was created for this user for use on that particular machine.
Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.

 
Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:
 
Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

• Right-click on icon and select Run as Administrator to start the tool.
  (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
• Press the Fix button just once and wait.
• If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
• When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.
