downloading newer versions of malwarebytes

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I recently purchased the full version of malwarebytes. Does the program update itself or do I have to completely install newer versions. I keep getting prompts that my malwarebytes is outdated but when I go to download a newer version I have to do the complete set up including adding the icon to the desktop  etc. Is this something legit or a virus?

Thank you,

LG

The Malwarebytes Program currently downloads any program updates automatically (Premium version only) and will prompt you when it has been downloaded so that you can install the new version. There is no need to visit the main site, although its not a bad idea to do it from time to time to see what's new...

@dezign2:

It sounds as if you might be confusing DATABASE updates with PROGRAM updates?

You mentioned:

I keep getting prompts that my malwarebytes is outdated

If you could please tell us the exact message wording and/or post a screen shot of the notification, we could help to better sort out the behavior you describe.

As @Firefox mentioned, the DATABASE is updated 10 or more times a day (and can be scheduled to do so automatically under the Trial or Premium version).
PROGRAM updates are much less frequent, only a couple of times a year.

If you're still not sure what's happening, it would help us to see a bit of system info.
Please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)

Thanks,

Hi and thank you for your help.

I get a box that pops up from the systray (to the right bottom corner of my screen) that says: "A new version of Malwarebytes Anti- Malware is ready to be installed. Install now?" I have two options...ok and later. If I click later I get directed to the Malwarebytes Dashboard where it has in yellow at the top where it says "Your program version is out of date."

If I accept it, I go through the entire download process as if I just downloaded it for the very first time. Including adding the icon to the desktop. If this is normal then fine, but I am skeptical. Why should I go through that if I purchased the program. I would think the benefit of purchasing the product would be to have the program work for itself each time.

Thanks again,

LG

Hi:

It's impossible to say without more information, but it sounds as if something may have gone amiss with the program update.

Let's pleas start with the following routine troubleshooting:

  • Please carefully follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
  • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
  • NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here - Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
