Proxy Hi-Jack - Can't disable network proxy, loopback proxy auto resets

Recommended Posts

My computer's network settings has been hi-jacked by something that is undetectable.

My system:

X64 Windows 8.1

The problem:

When trying to browse the web on chrome, Firefox or ie explorer it says unable to connect to the proxy server... I know for a fact I'm connected to the internet though, because I launched tor and was able to browse the web through the Tor Firefox browser for about 15 minutes... and then something strange happened, tor lost connection and can no longer connect to the internet due to some kind of proxy issue... so that's when I started to think something was very fishy...

I looked in my network settings, and found in my proxy settings the following:

use a proxy server: (checked)

Address: http=127.0.0.1:50723;https=127.0.0.1:50723

Port: (left blank)

use the proxy server except for addresses that start with the following entries:

<-loopback>

...

I tried to uncheck the settings only to find that it resets itself immediately.

I even tried to do the http://localhost/proxy.pac thing...

No luck

I even went in the registry and changed the internetsettings to disable the proxy through registry...

In the registry settings it had all of the proxy settings that I saw being used in my network settings, and after deleting that, the proxy settings were still reseting itself...

I decided to run some scans, malwarebytes full system scan... it came up with several things, I hit fix and successfully removed all of the problems that showed up. I then restarted...

No luck, still having the proxy error... so I then ran the rootkit scanner, didn't find anything that looked suspicious.

I then ran spybot search and destroy, only found two things, removed them, restarted, still no luck. Now I'm getting desperate and I need help, I've never experienced anything like this before.

What do I think caused this?

So I'm almost positive I know what the cause of this issue is.

After downloading an iOS bypass program because I was looking to jailbreak my new iPhone, I accidently hit agree on one of the installation pages which installed several behind the scene programs... I was able to uninstall all of them afterwards through "uninstall program", however one of the programs called RocketTab, which would pull up suggested related items when hovering over images online, seemed to create a problem...

I uninstalled rocket tab through "uninstall programs", restarted, and then immediately afterwards I started to get the "proxy error" whenever I would try to browse the web with any browser.

Summary:

I need help desperately. I haven't been able to fix it myself, so this is now beyond the scope of what I can do. I've looked on other similar forum topics, and I've surmised that this problem is likely highly particular to my machine, so I need the help of someone.
