Hi MrCharlie,

Did all the actions.

Here are the Fixlog.txt and AdwCleaner[s1].txt and JRT.txt logs as requested.

(Note it is AdwCleaner[s1].txt since I previously used AdwCleaner - beginning of 2014)

And at end Malwarebytes threat scan detected zero object infected.

Hi MrCharlie,

Yes, performed a FRST scan with Addition Box checked.

Here are the FRST.txt and Addition.txt logs (had to attach them since they were too long when pasted):

And some feedback - am not sure if this should have been resolved at this point. Please disregard this if it is addressed further on :)

I am still getting a browser hijack.

If I enter a term in the Chrome address bar, instead of getting a search via Google.com I get a search via:

www.mystartsearch.com that then points to http://searches.vi-view.com/

cheers,

Jot

Do you know what this extension is in Firefox:

FF Extension: No Name - C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{129b29a3-f554-444b-aa12-8ead59836cc8} [2014-10-07]

=========================================

Chrome has to be manually reset:

CHR HomePage: Default -> hxxp://www.mystartsearch.com/?type=hp&ts=1413403001&from=amt&uid=ST9500325AS_5VE9F2RQXXXX5VE9F2RQ
CHR StartupUrls: Default -> "hxxp://clicky.com/user/"
CHR DefaultSearchKeyword: Default -> mystartsearch
CHR DefaultSuggestURL: Default ->

https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95314?hl=en <<<----Home page
https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95421?hl=en <<<---CHR StartupUrls

Right-click the omnibox (address bar), click "Edit search engines," and add a search engine. Use a Name you will recognize, enter the keyword you want to use, and just enter the URL for your bookmark in the URL box. <<<---CHR DefaultSearchKeyword

Let me know.....MrC

Hello MrC,

No, do not know what the Firefox extension is:

FF Extension: No Name - C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{129b29a3-f554-444b-aa12-8ead59836cc8} [2014-10-07]

Had a look with a Google search, but could not find anything useful.

=========================

As to Chrome using the hijacked search engine, this is now SOLVED. Thanks!

cheers,

Jot

OK, I would disable and /or delete that extension.

=========================

If there's no other problems.......

Lets check your computers security before you go and we have a little cleanup to do also:

Download Security Check by screen317 from HERE or HERE.

  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • If you get Unsupported operating system. Aborting now, just reboot and try again.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt.
  • Please Post the contents of that document.
  • Do Not Attach It!!!

Hi MrCharlie,

"OK, I would disable and /or delete that extension" ->>

Well, tried to find out which of my FireFox extensions it is but can not match it to my extensions list in FF.

Do not know how to do this.

Performed the Security Check scan and the following is the checkup.txt log:

For that FF extension:

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same folder as FRST.exe/FRST64.exe.
Run FRST.exe/FRST64.exe and click Fix only once and wait
The tool will create a log (Fixlog.txt) in the folder, please post it to your reply.

=============================================

Out dated programs on the system are vulnerable to malware.
Please update or uninstall them:

======================

Mozilla Firefox 32.0.3 Firefox out of Date! <----please check for an update if available.

=====================

A little clean up to do....

Please Uninstall ComboFix: (------->if you used it<-------)

Press the Windows logo key + R to bring up the "run box"

Copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /uninstall

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /

cf2.jpg

Then hit enter. (it may look like CF is re-installing but it's not)
This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and clears System Restore cache and create new Restore point

(If that doesn't work.....you can simply rename ComboFix.exe to Uninstall.exe and double click it to complete the uninstall or download and run the uninstaller)

---------------------------------

bwebb7v.jpgDownload Delfix from here and save it to your desktop. (you may already have this)

  • Ensure Remove disinfection tools is checked.
  • Click the Run button.
  • Reboot

Any other programs or logs that are still remaining, you can manually delete. (right click.....Delete)
IE: RogueKiller.exe, RKreport.txt, RK_Quarantine folder, C:\FRST folder, FRST-OlderVersion folder, MBAR folder, etc....AdwCleaner > just run the program and click uninstall.

Note:
If you used FRST and can't delete the quarantine folder:
Download the fixlist.txt to the same folder as FRST.exe.
Run FRST.exe and click Fix only once and wait
That will delete the quarantine folder created by FRST.
The rest you can manually delete.

-------------------------------

Any questions...please post back.

If you think I've helped you, please leave a comment > click on my avatar picture > click Profile Feed.

Take a look at My Preventive Maintenance to avoid being infected again.

Good Luck and Thanks for using the forum, MrC
