by putting a new os on there would delete my files and history? wouldn't a reball be better though?

without prior experience and some needed equipment ... all the bets are off .

 

if you had another computer you could use it to pull the files and data off of your HDD and after the new OS is installed these files can be restored .

all of your programs and such will be lost ... they will have to be installed "fresh" .
