wifi is not working?

I have windows 8, railink wifi adapter.
My HP laptop's recovery partition was showing only one file when i tried to open it. But it is now showing many files + an extra file got inserted into the recovery d drive (an idm installation .exe file) and nearly at the same time my wifi stopped working. Now, wifi connection icon shows a red cross.
How to determine if it is a hard disk problem or malware problem and what is its solution?

Next,

Right click on the internet connection icon, select "Troubleshoot problems" what feedback do you get?

Next,

Download Farbar Service Scanner from here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-service-scanner/dl/62/ and run it on the computer with the issue.

Make sure the following options are checked:

  • Internet Services

  • Windows Firewall
  • System Restore
  • Security Center/Action Center
  • Windows Update
  • Windows Defender
  • Press "Scan".
  • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

Post those logs...
