possible conflict with Avast, since their last update.

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm on: Sprint /USA

Model:HTC EVO 4g LTE

Version:4.1.1

Build:3.17.651.5. 710RD

CPU: 1512 mhz (dual core)

Kernel:3.4.10-gf5d846c

Hi, I am not sure if There is a problem with your program, but Avast just did a major update and changed their UI.

Now,both icons in notification have always been fighting for position. With Avast trying to be first, but when scanning new or updated apps,it seems Mbam goes first, because as soon as Avast announces their scan, yours follows directly behind saying "blank is safe" Now this has been the norm till recently,

Mbam has missed scans at times, and Avast has scaned twice for the same app install. (perhaps you could add a five second delay to app scan?)

Note: Avast claims that their icon is necessary for better operating.(i did try removing yours for a bit) from notification bar.

The thing that concerns me is,that the two programs may be cancelling out one another at times. Although it is entirely possible that Avast is at fault here,I contacted you first,as many people want to run your app side by side with all other AV venders.

Also, does Mbam scan all homescreen apps when they reload upon returning from another app. Or what does Mbam scan in the background that Avast would be scanning simultaneously. Like urls,or opening new app?

Hi,and thanks,

I should have writen earlier this afternoon when I also discovered that the log history shows no entries for scanning apps upon initiating them. It only shows scans for new,or updated apps,of which some are missing. And the scheduled scans I have set in settings. I have every possible scan selected,so there is more missing than I thought originally. If I can figure out how to forward histories of Mbam and logs from Avast,I will do so as early as possible.

Hi.

I have heard back from the MBAM Mobile team and it is recommended as a solution to remove one of the apps or to disable the realtime protection for one of them.

Can you answer the following questions for out MBAM Mobile team?

It's not possible to cancel other app's scan. What does user mean by "missed scans"? Does MBAM Mobile skips some scheduled scans or some of the apps are not scanned?

Also the icon is needed for both of apps during the scan, otherwise system has a chance to kill the scanner anytime during a scan.

Ferndog, how can we have a conversation if you don't read my post's? I replied right after you did yesterday. I can not reply to the email you send,it is (no-reply) meaning they bounce back if I tried. Please read my replies here! And I might add that this is a crappy way to resolve an issue if you don't bother to check back. I will post a new topic for each reply if need be.

How in the hell am i to get any help if you don't bother reading my replies on the topic I started??? This is me having a one-sided conversation with you asking questions for which I answered already. You should have received notice that I have replied TWICE NOW! But because YOU have not checked the box to receive updates to my topic,I am forced to reply here for all to see. Without a good support system, Mbams reputation will become less than sterling,as it is so far. now PLEASE READ MY REPLY ON MY PREVIOUS TOPIC!

Hello,

I am sorry for the delay however I did respond to your post with an update from the Dev team. Unfortunately there is a delay in the response time as we have to forward your inquires to the Dev team for review. Once we receive an reply, we provide you whatever information that have given to us. We are simply a moderator for this forum.

Did you read the last reply that I posted and have any other information to provide or any further questions?

Go READ ALL MY REPLIES PLEASE! if you had,you would not have asked me questions I answered already! This is not customer support. Google does customer support,by letting us file bug reports. You not reading my imediate response to you first reply,or checking that I responded at all is not being a good moderator. Asking for things answered only creates problems and frustration. Do you get paid to do this job, because if you do,well then that's a problem. You still have not read the reply that TELLS YOU WHAT SCANS ARE BEING MISSED !

Now read my second reply, and stop asking me to write it again. I'm a little sick of writing about this problem and getting the run around. If I write about it again,it will be to someone who has a wider audience.

Dear David,

I apologies for any inconvenience that this may have caused you, and I appreciate your understanding as we continue to improve our customer experience. I will try my best to answer all your questions you may have had:

a) [There are no logs for:

1) app execution,

2) file downloads (pdf etc.) ]

Currently the execution scan feature automatically scans files upon launch of an application.  If no malware is detected, the execution scan feature does not logs the scan results and does not notify the user. We have corrected this mistake in our user guide and will update and post it shortly  If, on the other hand, malware is found, the execution scan log the result and displays a warning message to the user with an option to either delete the file or ignore the warning. Currently we do not scan 'PDFs" , "doc" and that is why we do not show their log on history. In the current mobile space these files are not harming your phone and and it is not necessary at this point to increase our scan time to scan files that are not really threats.  The only files that we are scanning at this point are ".dex", ".odex", ".so", ".bin", ".jar" since we have seen major threats initiated by these files.

b)[In operation manual, sec 5.2.2 ,says that real time protection needs to be enabled for all but #1 to work. YET......

In sec 5.2.4 it says that enabling real time protection DISABLES several notification features in 5.2.2

So which is it,and why does the history log not show other scans in background?]

I apologize for the confusion. You are absolutely right and we have removed " In addition, enabling Real-Time Protection disables several features on the Notifications screen (see Section 5.2.2 for

further information)" from our user guide since it was an error on our side and I appreciate the time you took to read and bring this up.

c) conflict with Avast

Mobile world is different than PC world. Due to limitation on CPU and battery on your android smart phone we do not recommend to run more than one mobile security app since it would hog up resources and chew up battery. Running two mobile security app or more on android is counter-productive as clashes may to occur and there is really no need to run multiple av security apps on your android device. Our detection rate is as good as or even higher than our  competitors.

Hope that answer all your questions and please do not hesitate to reach me for any questions or concerns.  I just want to let you know that We have completed our new beta tester community page for our Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Mobile beta users. You can  download and install our latest beta app , report any bug as well as share any new features and thoughts:  http://mwb.to/MobileBetaTester

Thanks,

Sorry, the go read my replies was for "ferndog" who only added to my frustration, which I explained in my official ticket request, now answered. I sent a message with my thanks, and suggested that playstore email link lead to the form for help. As I explained elsewhere,I was being directed all over the place, and my replies were not being read, before being asked questions I answered already. The problem is now resolved to complete satisfaction, thank you.

One last note here is needed for anyone who finds this. Some replies are not in the order in which events transpired. The last one with the (duplicate message reply) My part,"go read all my replies" was actually a second post or rather a new subject post, moved here after I had received the answers already, hense the duplicate answer. That was doneto get the moderators attention. In the mean time,I finally found the official help form and filed a formal request, the above answer from staff has indeed ended this problem.

  • 2 weeks later...

Oct.20 2014 Avast updated again a few day ago,and I am running Mbam mobile beta, which I think just went stabile in playstore.

I have not had any of the recent problems especially with the icons in notifications bar. Avast's icon was causing position problems, that I think may have caused some scanning anomalies. Avast had doubled on scans at times, and may have interupted Mbams program scans at times. I believe they are behaving now,and have not witnessed any further problems.
