Pretty sure I have a virus...

Recommended Posts

Hi! I need lots of help!!

I have Windows 7, and Norton Internet, but recently noticed that my Norton would not open, but I'm not sure how long that has been going on. So I looked up solutions, and it said I had to uninstall and reinstall. I uninstalled successfully, but when I went to reinstall, things starting getting wierd. A blue screen came on, and I had to remove the battery in order to restart. When I did so, I tried to reinstall Norton again, but the blue screen reappeared. que multiple restarts to try stuff... Then I tried starting Safe mode with networking so I could download some of those malware to remove the virus, or try and reinstall Norton, but now my internet says "no connections available". I tried starting in regular mode again, but it still says no internet available there too, though there should be plenty of connections I could use from my apartment area.

What do I do??

Thanks in advance for your time and assistance!!

Hi MrCharlie, thank you for your response!

However, because my computer tells me that there are no connections available, I cannot connect to the Internet, so all of those actions above that included download, I cannot complete. I'm guessing that the virus has somehow blocked my computer's ability to connect to the Internet? Any suggestions on how to fix that so I can start on the actions you suggested above?

Thanks!

If you have a usb flash drive, using a good computer, download and copy the programs the programs on to it. Now plug the drive into the sick computer, install and run them.

If you have a good system restore point, please try that.

OK so I have internet actually, and I think the reset might have fixed it, I was just looking at something different and got confused... sorry. The log agrees with me too, it came up cleanmalwarebytes_scan.txt.

Since it didn't come up with anything, do I continue with the tasks? Does this mean that it wasn't a virus, just something wrong with my computer?

Well Norton still won't let me open it, and before you said to continue with the scans, I tried to redo the process of uninstall, reinstall, and that blue screen came up in the middle of it, which has white writing and wouldn't let me do anything, so I have to turn off the computer by removing the battery.

Well I was able to re-download it, and it appeared to be working, but then after a couple minutes, the blue, stop error screen appeared again. Turned the computer off, and on again, and clicked on Norton right away to see if it would still work, and within 30 seconds of opening, the blue screen came again. Not sure if this is a hardware issue, and it's just a coincidence that it happens when I'm dealing with Norton, or a bug that doesn't like Norton.... What are your thoughts?
