MBAM not working correctly

This is coming from a real sub-lower-mid-level brain. How is it so easy for a virus to shut down MB?? I thought MB was front line protection? Plus, it is so amazingly difficult to get it going again. It's happened to me twice. I purchased another year, two months ago and haven't been able to use it. I've got the icon when I right click a file but nothings happens.

I'm fairly certain I've been to the removal shop but was overwhelmed. I'll try again.
