Windows 8.1 Pro PC... Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium Premium 2.0.2.1012

Several weeks ago I downloaded "Adobe Reader" from what turned out to be a "clone" site. As soon as I started the install, Malwarebytes started catching stuff immediately. I then uninstalled it with Windows "uninstall a program" in the control panel, and removed it from my downloads folder.

Malwarebytes is now finding "PUP.Optional.Astromenda.A" when it runs a scan. I use the current version of Chrome 64-bit and have read here that "PUP.Optional.Astromenda.A" is a browser hacker. I have seen no evidence that my browser has been hijacked. The only strange thing I see is that even when I close chrome before a PC shut down, the next time I boot and launch Chrome, Chrome warns me that it was not shut down properly and asks if I want to restore Chrome to it's prior open tabs. I do not know if that is related to this bug.

After a scan, if I delete this bug, it is found again on the next scan. If I just leave it quarantined, it is not found again on the next scan. (I assume this means that Malwarebytes sees that it is already quarantined and ignores it.)

Should I leave this bug quarantined and not deleted, assuming that no harm will come, OR should I find a way to completely remove it?

I also tried running AdwCleaner ver 3.310, but this did not stop MalwareBytes from finding the bug again.

thanks in advance for some advice.

Hello,

They call me TwinHeadedEagle around here, and I'll be working with you.

Before we start please read and note the following:

  • Limit your internet access to posting here, some infections just wait to steal typed-in passwords.
  • Please be patient. I know it is frustrating when your PC isn't working properly, but malware removal takes time.
  • Don't run any scripts or tools on your own, unsupervised usage may cause more harm than good.
  • Do not paste the logs in your posts, attachments make my work easier. There is a Upload Files option below which you can use to attach your reports. Always attach reports from all tools.
  • Stay with me to the end, the absence of symptoms doesn't mean that your machine is fully operational.
  • Note that we may live in totally different time zones, what may cause some delays between answers.
  • Do not ask for help for your business PC. Companies are making revenue via computers, so it is good thing to pay someone to repair it.
  • If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.

:excl: I can't foresee everything, so if anything unexpected happens, please stop and inform me!
:excl: There are no silly questions. Never be afraid to ask if in doubt!
