Can't start the program

Hello forum, I have a new computer with Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. Right after installing Windows I downloaded Malwarebytes from the malwarebytes.org website and installed it. This was on August 18th. I have never been able to run the program.

 

I did all the steps as told in the sticky thread "What to do: Runtime error - database stuck on 2014.03.04 - program 'stopped working' error", because that's the message I get everytime. But it did not help. The problem has not changed, I get the same message again and again:

 

 

Is there a solution at all?

• Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x

I have not deinstalled and cleanly reinstalled Malwarebytes because I installed it only a month ago and it is the newest version 2.0.2.1012.

Your logs definitely show the program crashing, including the mbam-check utility.

So, as you have not yet tried a clean reinstall, I suggest the following steps, to provide us with a known, "clean" baseline for additional troubleshooting:

 

• Please carefully follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
• If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt) -- if you get to this point and need to run FRST again, please place a check-mark in the "Addition.txt" option before you run it, so that it will produce both logs.

Then, please post back with the fresh, new set of all 3 logs.

Sir, but I have installed the latest build.

I did everything you asked me to do because I thought it would help to solve the problem. If it doesn't, why did I have to do it? Please don't misunderstand this, I am only curious, because I am not an IT expert. I am also not a computer idiot, I consider myself an advanced user. My skills are about as good as my English (I am German).

Also I must confess that it does not bother me too much that Malwarebytes does not work. It is not a problem for me, I should suppose that it is much more a problem for those who developed this program.

To be clear, I am not an IT expert either, and I do not work for Malwarebytes.

I am just a home user and forum volunteer. I am doing my best to help you on the weekend, when staff assistance is a bit limited.

 

The reason to ask for a clean reinstall is that cleanly reinstalling the program -- including the use of the mbam-clean removal tool and rebooting the system -- often resolves minor issues (corruption, conflicts, etc).

It is often the fastest way to get a user back up and running.

That is what most users want.

Most of the time -- but NOT always -- it works. No further intervention is needed.

 

When it does not resolve the user's issues, then the staff and experts need more information in the form of diagnostic logs.

I misunderstood your original post to say that you had already tried the clean reinstall.

That was the only reason I suggested skipping to the logs step first.

 

The logs show that the program (and even the mbam-check diagnostic tool) are not working**.

So, that is why I suggested going back to the first, basic troubleshooting step, the clean reinstall.

It only takes a few minutes to do so and it cannot hurt.

It might resolve your issue.

 

If you prefer not to do so, then please wait for assistance from the staff and more expert forum members.

They may request that same clean reinstall, or they may ask for crash dump files, or they may refer you to another area of the forum for deeper work on the computer.

After the last response that was made to your post a week ago, Malwarebytes has released a updated program (still beta) which fixes many problems.  The "database stuck" that you mentioned in your first post is one of the problems that has been fixed.  The following link will take you to the beta forum, where you can see what was fixed and download the newest version (clicking on the first pinned link), and also see what issues are still remaining to be fixed (in the second pinned link).
