Unable to Access Update Server

I have not been able to update for 109 days. No Real-Time Protection. Push Fix Now, and nothing happens.  Have tried to update many times over the past 3 months.  I run a scan with the outdated version, and it seems to be completed too soon.  The previous version too about 15 minutes, and this newer version only 2-3 min.

 

On the History tab, Application Logs and Quarantine screens are blank.

 

I would like to get up and running again, but reading through the questions and responses on this forum seems very complex and I don't understand most of the exchanges -- lots of acronyms and geek-speak that I have not been able to follow.  Can't I simply uninstall the program and start with a new install?

Hello and :welcome:

A couple of easy things to check:

>> 1. First, please be sure your system date/time are correct.

>> 2. Then, please be sure that your AV and firewall both give MBAM full permissions. It's possible that your AV or firewall might be treating the new build as a new program and may be blocking it -- the files that need to be excluded can be found =>HERE<=. Please post back if you need help with that.

>> 3. Also, please check to be sure there are no "Detected Threats" that need to be dealt with first, as this can prevent the program from updating: Click the "Scan" button at the top of the dashboard and verify that there are no detected threats (especially PUPs or PUMs) awaiting your actions.

If those suggestions don't resolve your issue:

  • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
  • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)

I'm sure a little more information would be helpful :huh:

 

Toshiba Satellite S55-A5295:  Intel 3630 Quad core, 12 GB RAM, 1TB drive

Win 8.1 (horrid software!) running with Classic Shell (a savior)

Firefox browser

Malwarebytes Premium installed 5/23/14 (so I was able to update for the first 15 days)

 

Computer seems to work OK otherwise, but I am lacking adequate protection.

OK -- found a version of McAfee running (remnants of a free trial edition that came with the computer) which I un-installed.  Found out how to add the mbam exceptions to Windows Defender, and added all files recommended.  Re-started the computer with no net improvement.  MBAM starts, but does not display what version -- puts up a green checkmark with text that reads "Loading..." which it neber does.  Clicking on the Update Now link causes the "Loading..." text to disappear, immediately replaced with ! Unable to Access Update server"
