'Unable to access update server', also a red cross with 'real time protection - no protection'

Recommended Posts

I have been having the above issues for a while now.

I have uninstalled and resinstalled and still getting the same above conditions.

I have the Dell Inspiron running Windows 8.1

I have these three logs: CheckResults.txt, FRST.txt and Addition.txt. available just not sure where to  send them.

Hi:

If I understand correctly, when you try to update, you get the following message: 'Unable to access update server'

Until a staff member arrives to review the logs, please be sure that your system date and time on the computer are correct.

2 questions/things to try:

1. When you uninstalled/reinstalled, did you follow all of the steps here in this pinned topic, including using the removal tool and rebooting when prompted: MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x?

>>>If not, then such a "clean" reinstall might be worth a try.

2. What happens when you try to ping the MBAM update servers?

a. Open an elevated command prompt: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2754-elevated-command-prompt-open-windows-8-a.html

b. Type the characters that come after this colon: ping data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

c. Hit "Enter"

d. Post the results or a screen shot of the results.

Thanks,

It will work for a while then it will eventually tell me "unable to access server and that realtime protection is not enabled"

Date and time is correct.

I did do the "clean" reinstall but still the same result.

I would think you would need the ping results and three logs when Malwarebytes is acting up?

The three log files previously attached were created when everything is working properly.

Hi:

I'm sorry, but I guess I did not understand from your post that this is an intermittent problem?

Perhaps that is why nothing obvious jumped out from your logs.

>>So, are you able to ping the update servers and you are able to update properly now?

>>Does the problem with disabled protection and updating tend to occur when you first start up the system after it is powered off?

Other than that, I am not sure.

I will need to defer to the staff and more knowledgeable forum members.

They may see something else in your logs or request additional information to try to resolve your issue.

Thank you for your patience,

Hello and :welcome: , @WallowHollow:

Sorry to hear you are having issues.
Each computer is unique.
Problems that sound "the same" most often are not.
The same is true for solutions.
They most often need to be individualized.

It is less confusing for everyone if we try to stick to "one user per topic".
Please start a NEW, SEPARATE topic using this clickable cjfj.png button.
The staff and experts will be able to more easily provide both you and the OP with individual help to get you both up and running.

Thanks for your patience and understanding,
