Malwarebytes hangs when scanning Windows.Web.Wallpaper images

Recommended Posts

System:  Windows 7 Home Premium, SP 1, 64 bit

Hardware:  ASUS laptop K52F

Malwarebytes - free version 2.0.2.1012 (build date 5.12.2014)

Malwarebytes successfully completes a scan when I choose "Threat Scan" & finds no malicious items.

However a problem arises when I choose "Custom Scan" and check the C & D drives for scanning. When Malwarebytes reaches the folder C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Scenes or C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Windows, Malwarebytes hangs - never (even after many minutes) moves on to the next file - when trying to scan the image files in these folders. Note that if within Windows Explorer I select one or more image files in these folders and right click on "Scan with Malwarebytes...", this works just fine - the scan completes and no "malicious items" are found.

I have tried uninstalling Malwarebytes, running mbam-clean.exe, rebooting, downloading a new copy from  https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/, resinstalling, rebooting - the problem still occurs.

Note that I have scanned my laptop for malware using: Avira, Stinger, SuperAntiSpyware, Windows Defender, AdwCleaner, RogueKiller - nothing was found.

Any idea why this problem with Malwarebytes occurs?
