dllhost.exe *32 located in folder SysWOW64

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm new to the site but in desperate need of help. Usually I can rid my pc of infections with free online software. However, this one seems to be quite nasty. I've done a lot of research on the problem and even seen people on this site having the same issue. In the task manager I have several instances of dllhoste.exe *32 running and eating up all the memory in my pc to the point of almost being completely unfunctional. I located the file in C:/ Windows/ SysWOW64 and tried to delete the .exe file but of course I was unable to because I did not have permission to perform the action despite my administrator privileges.

I did however download FRST and run a full scan. I will attach the results of the FRST.txt and Addition.txt files in hopes to start the recovery process. Is there anyone who can help me vanquish this demon? Thanks in advance for any help I may receive!

Thanks for the quick reply. I've read other posts that seem to be successful in dealing with my problem. After the FRST scan was complete they were able to use a custom fixlist.txt file specific to the users pc and select the fix button in the FRST software to remove the virus. I was wondering if this is an option for me since it seems like more of a simple solution and I am not very tech saavy. Do you think this is possible?

I'm trying to limit my downloads since my internet settings keep changing to block me from downloads, spotty internet connection, and pc constantly on the verge of crashing (all of the before mentioned as a result of this dllhost.exe virus). If it isn't possible I will give my best shot at the directions you provided above and attempt the downloads. Thanks again!

    Then...........

Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Information on disabling your malware programs can be found Here.

Make sure you run ComboFix from your desktop.

Give it at least 30-45 minutes to finish if needed.

Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

    ---------->NOTE<----------

If you get the message Illegal operation attempted on registry key that has been marked for deletion after you run ComboFix....please reboot the computer, this should resolve the problem. You may have to do this several times if needed.

So I haven't been able to get to my home computer because of my busy work schedule but I will be running through these most recent steps tonight. I've read over your instructions carefully and everything seems pretty straightforward so hopefully I can run through all the processes without error. I'll keep you posted, thanks.

It looks like after I ran the fixlist through FRST it cleared all of the dllhost.exe from my processes in the task manager. I noticed my computer running much better afterwards. I also just finished up running TDSSKiller and no threats were found. I'm attaching the logs.

TDSSKiller.3.0.0.40_19.09.2014_00.24.18_log.txt

I downloaded combofix to my desktop and followed the instructions. I disabled my firewall, virus protections, spybot, etc. But when I try to run combofix an error window pops up that says "Windows cannot find 'NIRKMD'. Make sure you typed the file name correctly, and then try again." I've double checked to make sure the programs that might interfere are disabled and tried running combofix again but it always produces the same results. I'm not sure what I can do to make this program function properly :(

Running in safe mode seemed to have done the trick and allowed combofix to run to completion. However, combofix was still alerting me that McAfee was still enabled even after I turned off real-time scanning, the firewall, and everything else I could disable. So I'm not sure what that was all about. Anyway, the combofix log was successfully created and I've attached the results.

Run RogueKiller again and click Scan

When the scan completes > click on the Registry tab

Put a check next to all of these and uncheck the rest: (if found)

My computer is running great now, pretty much everything seems to be operating smoothly and there's no signs of infection. Thank you for all of your help.

The only thing that still seems a bit off is my internet. When my pc was originally infected the internet was almost completely unusable. Now that my pc is clean, that too is running much better. However, it gets hung up when trying to load browsers or loading a game that needs to connect through the internet. I end up having to close the application and try again and again until it works. Once I'm connected I stay connected, but when it comes to opening another browser sometimes it's instant (as it should be) and other times it gets hung up and I have to recover the web page.

Any browser that is giving you a problem, you can reset:

http://en.kioskea.net/faq/6361-reset-your-browser-restore-your-browser-to-default-settings

For Google Chrome follow this procedure:

1. Download and run this tool, immediately it will start searching for suspicious programs on your computer and then shows a message how many programs it found.

https://www.google.com/chrome/srt/

2. Click ‘Remove suspicious programs ‘and wait for the tool to show ‘removal complete’ message.

3. Click ‘Continue’ to quit the tool (you may be prompted to restart your computer, do so)

4. After that, Chrome will automatically open and asks to reset browser settings, click ‘Reset’.

OK......

A little clean up to do....

Please Uninstall ComboFix: (------->if you used it<-------)

Press the Windows logo key + R to bring up the "run box"

Copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /uninstall

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /

cf2.jpg

Then hit enter. (it may look like CF is re-installing but it's not)

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and clears System Restore cache and create new Restore point

(If that doesn't work.....you can simply rename ComboFix.exe to Uninstall.exe and double click it to complete the uninstall or download and run the uninstaller)

---------------------------------

bwebb7v.jpgDownload Delfix from here and save it to your desktop. (you may already have this)

  • Ensure Remove disinfection tools is checked.
  • Click the Run button.
  • Reboot
Any other programs or logs that are still remaining, you can manually delete. (right click.....Delete)

IE: RogueKiller.exe, RKreport.txt, RK_Quarantine folder, C:\FRST folder, FRST-OlderVersion folder, MBAR folder, etc....AdwCleaner > just run the program and click uninstall.

Note:

If you used FRST and can't delete the quarantine folder:

Download the fixlist.txt to the same folder as FRST.exe.

Run FRST.exe and click Fix only once and wait

That will delete the quarantine folder created by FRST.

The rest you can manually delete.

-------------------------------

Any questions...please post back.
