computer constantly turning off/lots of viruses/adware

Recommended Posts

Windows 8 E Machine. I have a very large computer issue that is seemingly impossible to reverse. Turns its self off many times before allowing me to sign in as user. Finally able to start in safe mode with networking, but have to plug into router after safe mode has been accessed. Last night, was able to run a full threat scan with the free version of malwarebytes, over 466 infected items quarantined. 1 trojan found. (Conduit) After staying up all night finally decided to sleep. Began work again today with the same exact issues. Start up and internet connection issues, ran software again, completely clean computer. Shut down right after scan finished, then could not reboot without restoring to a previous point. After restoration completed (about 6 shut downs later) computer came back on, no logs that I can find in malwarebytes log folder to show you. I would reallllly like to not restore this computer as I need to purchase a terabyte in order to safe all data I need, would like to avoid that, however, I am totally at a loss for whats going on. Any help is much appreciated, dont know what to start now! Thanks.

Hello,

They call me TwinHeadedEagle around here, and I'll be working with you.

Before we start please read and note the following:

  • Limit your internet access to posting here, some infections just wait to steal typed-in passwords.
  • Please be patient. I know it is frustrating when your PC isn't working properly, but malware removal takes time.
  • Don't run any scripts or tools on your own, unsupervised usage may cause more harm than good.
  • Do not paste the logs in your posts, attachments make my work easier. There is a Upload Files option below which you can use to attach your reports. Always attach reports from all tools.
  • Stay with me to the end, the absence of symptoms doesn't mean that your machine is fully operational.
  • Note that we may live in totally different time zones, what may cause some delays between answers.
  • Do not ask for help for your business PC. Companies are making revenue via computers, so it is good thing to pay someone to repair it.
  • If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.

:excl: I can't foresee everything, so if anything unexpected happens, please stop and inform me!
:excl: There are no silly questions. Never be afraid to ask if in doubt!

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them.
Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

Alrighty! Thanks for your help! After a long day of pushing the power button, I was finally able to turn on the computer and access Windows. I absolutely cannot use internet explorer as it shuts down every time I try, so I have had to attach all logs to an external hard drive to send to you via my laptop. I have attached the 2 logs requested. I also cannot attach the external hard drive while the computer is booting or  while the computer is accessing the internet, that too triggers an automatic shutdown. The entire computer had restored its self to a previous version again.(virus's and tons of PUPS included.) Let me know what I need to do next.

Thanks.

You're indeed infected. We have some work to do:

FRST.gif Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on FRST.gif icon and select RunAsAdmin.jpg Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please post it to your reply.

Alrighty, I have attached 2 of the 3 requested logs as I had an issue retrieving the log for AdwCleaner. The program told me it needed to reboot and that a report would be available when the computer successfully restarted. Computer rebooted perfectly, but no report or way to access the report was available to me. As far as issues, the only issue I had was when rebooting after the 2nd task (malwarebytes), I was not able to reboot computer with internet. I had to remove the cable in order for the computer to start, however, I did not have this issue in rebooting for the 1st and 3rd times. Everything else was fine. Let me know if there is anything else I need to do. I still have not taken my computer off of safe mode or tried anything else with it yet. Thanks.

I have attached the 2 requested logs. I thought all was fine as I have not used my computer since the last round of scans I did. At that time the computer was working great (in safe mode) until I attempted to use Internet Explorer. It then shut down unexpectedly. It has since gone back to needing about 5-8 restarts just to boot. It turns off itself in the beginning of all booting. It took me 4 different tries to attach my external hard drive into the USB input in order to retrieve the logs from FARBAR. (I leave the USB plug in, it is simply the addition of the external hard drive that shuts the computer down abruptly.) Really frustrating. Should I disable internet explorer until we can figure anything else out? That seems to be what triggers problems. Also of course still the usual attaching any devices and also the Internet cable. Those are both still reoccurring issues. Thanks for all your help.

  • TDSSKiller will run automaticaly. Click on Change parameters and click OK.
  • Click the Start Scan button and wait patiently.
  • If anything will be found follow this guidelines:
    • If a suspicious object is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.

Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.
If Cure is not available, please choose Skip instead.
    • Do not choose Delete unless instructed!
A report will be created in your root directory, (usually C:\ drive) in the form of TDSSKiller.[Version]_[Date]_[Time]_log.txt. Please include the contents of that file in your next post.

Okay, I have attached the fix log here.  To answer your question, No, I have never been given a message before the computer turns off. It always just powers down unexpectedly. Since we have fixed a couple things, it now appears to only do that whenever I am using a web browser. Also, the computer still requires a couple tries for powering up. After I ran the fix, I turned the computer off for a bit, then when I came back to use it, it took 3 tries to load windows without powering down unexpectedly. I first attempted to open and use Internet Explorer, that session lasted about 15 minutes before the computer just unexpectedly turned off. So still having issues. :/
