Chameleon works ? but unable to update or reinstall MBAM due to Runtime Errors

Recommended Posts

Hi.

Am running a Windows 7 PC with latest updates from Windows Update.

I have MBAM Premium activated.

Received a blue screen this morning upon clicking on Internet Explorer icon, resulting in an automatic restart before I could read the messages. (Something about a corrupted header.) Once restarted, MBAM icon would launch nothing.  Did disk Checkscans and ran a full scan with my Norton anti-virus.  No problems detected.

I downloaded latest version of Chameleon (3.1.4.0) and have run it several times, in several different ways:  from within Windows, from Windows Safe Mode, and from Windows Safe Mode with Networking.  The Mbam_Killer seems to run to completion.  But when the next step to start MBAM is encountered, it terminates with the message "MalwareBytes Anti Malware has terminated -- unable to start the scan".

I have uninstalled MBAM and re-downloaded the latest version of MBAM (2.0.2.1012) and attempted to re-install it.  But the re-install operation generates multiple error-message boxes, all with similar messages:  "Internal error: Expression error - Runtime error at xx:yyy - External Exception E06D7363", where the xx:yyy values are these, in sequence:

    79:177 (multiple times)

    69:252

    45:89

But always with the same External Exception code.

The installation process concludes, but is obviously incomplete, as the mbam.exe (size 6,807 KB, dated 5/12/2014) can be launched, asks for permission to run, but does nothing.

It appears my mbam.exe tries to access something that it expects but isn't there.  You think?

What next steps do you suggest for me?

Thanks so much!

Please run a Threat Scan with MBAM.  If you're unable to run or complete the scan as shown below please see the following:  MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x

Follow the relevant steps and ensure to run mbam-clean tool after UNinstalling Malwarebytes.

When reinstalling the program please try the latest version from here:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/

Right click and choose "Run as administrator" to open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and from the Dashboard please Check for Updates by clicking the Update Now... link

Open up Malwarebytes > Settings > Detection and Protection > Enable Scan for rootkit and Under Non Malware Protection set both PUP and PUM to Treat detections as malware.

Click on the SCAN button and run a Threat Scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware by clicking the Scan Now>> button.

Once completed please click on the History > Application Logs and find your scan log and open it and then click on the "copy to clipboard" button and post back the results on your next reply.
