Received ThinkPad W500 from eBay, can't run Windows Update, points to virus

I just received a Lenovo ThinkPad W500 laptop from an eBay seller, and it had a pre-created user set up (named 777 with no password), and I couldn't run Windows Update, update Internet Explorer, run Lenovo System Updates, or install Microsoft Security Essentials. I either got bizarre errors or it just wouldn't run. I'll attach the pictures.

I ran a factory restore (available from the ThinkVantage button from boot-up), but that didn't help anything. It's as if somebody modified a factory install file but I don't know how to fix it or what to do about it; it might be irretrievably broken.

Is there some way for me to find out? I already installed and ran MalwareBytes and Norton and it found nothing. I did notice there appeared to be a restore partition drive in Computer, but I'm not sure if wiping the hard drive or replacing it will remove the virus.

Is there something that can scan all of the software and firmware to see if a virus is there?

When I brought this up to the seller he just said to ship it back, but I then filed for eBay's 14-day money-back guarantee where I described the problems (and his agreement to take it back), at which point the seller flipped out and accused me of changing the software and removing his installed software even though a factory restore is a normal thing for a laptop.

Here's the item and seller if you're curious: http://www.ebay.com/itm/231312767890?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Hello and post-32477-1261866970.gif

P2P/Piracy Warning:

If you're using Peer 2 Peer software such as uTorrent, BitTorrent or similar you must either fully uninstall them or completely disable them from running while being assisted here.Failure to remove or disable such software will result in your topic being closed and no further assistance being provided. If you have illegal/cracked software, cracks, keygens etc. on the system, please remove or uninstall them now and read the policy on Piracy.

Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system (32 bit or 64 bit). If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

Next,

Download Farbar Service Scanner from here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-service-scanner/dl/62/ and run it on the computer with the issue.

Make sure the following options are checked:

Internet Services
Windows Firewall
System Restore
Security Center/Action Center
Windows Update
Windows Defender

Press "Scan".
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

Next,

Run the MGA Diagnostic Tool and post back the report it creates:

  • Download MGADiag from here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click on MGADiag.exe to launch the program
  • Click "Continue"
  • Ensure that the "Windows" tab is selected (it should be by default).
  • Click the "Copy" button to copy the MGA Diagnostic Report to the Windows clipboard. (Do not worry about any errors at this point, paste will still work)
  • Paste the MGA Diagnostic Report back here in your next reply.

Let me see those logs in your next reply....
