Hi:

EDIT: OOPS! It seems that one of our expert members has already stepped in.

I'll leave my reply here, as it would expedite the process if you could run the scanners and post back with the diagnostic logs.

It might also help to follow the steps in this tutorial and post back with the logs it creates: http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/264840-windows-update-posting-instructions.html

Until one of our expert forum members arrives, I might suggest that you seek assistance at a more "general" computer forum.
Windows Updates issues can be quite complicated to diagnose and treat.
I'm not saying that the folks here cannot help.
It's just that this type of problem might be better suited to a more general help forum, where folks who "specialize" in this sort of thing hang out?

You don't mention what version of Windows you are running, so here are a few suggestions:
http://www.vistax64.com/windows-updates/
http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/
http://www.eightforums.com/windows-updates-activation/
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/

Having said that, if you would like help here, please start by running a couple of tools to provide a bit of basic system information.

Please read the steps below and post back with all 4 logs ATTACHED to your next reply (If you are running Windows 8.1, you will only have the 2 FRST logs).

Thanks,

---------------------

STEP 1
Please run the DDS scanner and send back both logs as attachments to your next reply.
If you are running Windows 8.1, please skip this step.

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop:
dds.scr
dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.
How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.
Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool.
Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.
A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include both of the following logs in your next reply as an attachment: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
  • You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file and just post it or attach it.

STEP 2
Please run the FRST tool and send back both logs as attachments to your next reply.

Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system, download both of them and try to run them. The one that runs will be the right version.

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your next reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your next reply.

My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

I dont know where to check service pack level.

the only way i open windows update is type it after clicking start in lower left corner then hit enter.

The control panel confuses me, and I dont know what you mean by update via Internet Explorer.

If it has to be done with Internet Explorer, i have problems using it since i deactivated my Sony overlay and basically dont know how to start Internet Explorer.

I have waited because i thought Microsoft knows what its doing, i admit that was stupid.

I have a Vaio laptop and its running very very smooth, way better than expected.

Thank you, but i can not see service pack level.

here are a few log files, i hope this helps.

For your information, many people have had that problem, i saw a small fix file on the net, which i did not use, i downloaded a fix from Microsoft, almost 600 mb, which not suprisingly did not do anything but taking space on my hd. The name is Windows6.1-KB947821-v33-x64.msu.

attach.txt

dds.txt

FRST.txt

Addition.txt

Windows 7, version 6.1.7600 - no service pack w/IE9

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5842

Choose; "Download"

Then choose;  windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe  for download.

That will download Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for the 64bit OS

Hi:

I do not have service pack 1????

Well done, Microsoft, well done!

Actually, it's up to the user to configure Windows Updates to check for, download, and/or automatically install updates for Windows and for other MS products (such as Office). ;)

There are many helpful tutorials about this, for example: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2797-windows-update-settings-change.html

Now that you have SP1, you might want to recheck manually for updates, to be sure you have all the many patches that have been issued since May 2014.  Without them, your computer is vulnerable to security flaws.

Also:

I don't see an anti-virus (AV) program installed/running on this system?

For the record, MBAM Premium is NOT an antivirus and is not a substitute for one: Does Malwarebytes Anti-Malware replace antivirus software?

It would be a good idea to install a robust AV (either free or paid) to run alongside MBAM.

Here is a list of some options & related resources: List of well known antivirus products

<just a few suggestions from a non-expert home user>

Cheers,
