Malwarebytes real-time website protection broken?

Recommended Posts

Hello. I've been getting a little problem with my malwarebytes. (Also, sorry in advance if this is in the wrong thread!)

It says the real-time malware protection is on, but the website protection is not?

I've updated it and its up to date. I've tried it on the right-click menu from the icon tray, and the settings menu, to re-enable the website protection, but it keeps turning back off. i've exited and re-ran my malwarebytes multiple times and it has stayed this way.

If it is needed, my OS is windows 8.1 and my main antivirus is Norton 360. (however much I dislike it as I got a problem with it as soon as I installed it.)

Could anyone help? Please and thank you if there's any idea's to help with my malwarebytes!

Thank you for replying!
It seems to be working. I have it re-installed now and i'm doing a scan. (Last time I tried between my post and your response, it told me the database was missing or corrupt.) It didn't mess up or anything. I'll see how it's working later today! I hope it will be working just fine now.
Thank you for taking time out of your early day to respond to me. If it happens again i'll follow the same steps!

Hello Dash,

I would suggest you tweak the "whitelist / trust" settings in your antivirus suite --- in your case, the Norton 360.

Some AV suites and or their firewall or "web filter" componenent "can" interfere with the processes of our realtime protection.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware works well and should run alongside antivirus software without conflicts. In some rare instances, exclusions may need to be set for your specific antivirus product to achieve the best possible system performance.

I suggest putting in trust settings in your antivirus, as follows:

Please "put as Trusted" (i.e., put Trust settings ) for the following MBAM exe files within your Antivirus Software **whitelist** :

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in "Windows Firewall" you'll need to exclude them from it as well

For 32-bit Windows Vista or Windows 7 or Windows XP:

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamscheduler.exe

For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7 or Windows 8:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe

C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe

C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe

C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe

C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamscheduler.exe

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude MBAM.EXE and MBAMSERVICE.EXE from it as well

Note: Once that's done, please make sure that if either of those programs has any sort of web filter, that you add the following as a trusted site:

data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

Check your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security application to see if you can add exclusions for specific applications/files to ignore.

You may need to contact their technical support or check their support website for instructions.

You will need to set your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security to ignore/exclude the files I listed above.

I have checked my norton's firewall and it is set to allow mbam and mbamservice. I checked the security history though, and nortons been blocking a lot of malwarebytes. I cannot find in my norton 360 where I'd be able to type out the exclusions. The only firewall I know of that i'm using is windows, even though when I look at it it says nortons taking care of everything.  As far as I know, my nortons allowing my malwarebytes to go through.

Thank you for the instructions, Maurice!

Some questions:  Is the Norton 360 the most recent version?  Did it come originally with this system when you bought it?  Was there ever another antivirus product installed on this box?

Now as to Norton and the "how" & the "where" to put in the exceptions in the Norton settings .... see the How to and the pictures on this section

https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/10138-common-questions-issues-and-their-solutions/?p=215158

but only use the exe file-names and the folder locations that I gave you here  ( in my preceding reply).

You had said this before about Norton and now it seems ominous

(however much I dislike it as I got a problem with it as soon as I installed it.)

The issue of not having the realtime protection usually comes down to these possibilities:

1- antivirus & its firewall is the block factor

2- windows system has a missing service ( for whatever reason.   some being a active infection or the remains or aftereffects of an infection)

or 3- a flawed installation of either the Anti-Malware

or 4 - blockage by other security software.

My problem had been that Norton had stopped me from using the internet before. Nothing had been able to load, though Skype still worked. So I had gotten around it and it fixed. I got my laptop with mcafee but I deleted it immediately.  though they gave me webroot. I had already bought norton 360 before I got this, so I still have webroot. I don't think its the absolute latest version.
It gets a similar problem I had with my malwarebytes. It says that  a scan hasn't been ran on the system and when I click fix it or  do a scan it doesn't run. Rebooting always fixes that, so i'm not worried about that part.
I don't know how to figure out what version or norton I have so this is  the picture I got (if i'm not supposed to post links I apologize!) http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/aplus/detail-page/B00EZPXWPG_Norton360_img1_lg.jpg
I'll go ahead and put malwarebytes and all of its components in the exclusions for scans.

The laptop is still pretty new, its windows 8.1 so I do not believe anything bad is happening. sure, when I first got it, the CMD kept running itself and I disconnected myself from the internet in a panic. But that stopped. I believe maybe the malwarebytes had a problem somehow, so doing that mbam-clean program from the first response by 1PW fixed it. Thank you for telling me what to do and linking me to that to help me add it to the list!

Many, if not most, antivirus suites do not fully uninstall.  That is to say, most will leave traces behind when you had done the uninstall.  It usually takes a second pass with a dedicated uninstaller.  ( example, there are ones for McAfee & Norton & others.)  So the fact that this relatively new box has had 2 or 3 antivirus suites is of concern.  The other concern is if this Norton version is not the most current version.

I understand that they usually don't. I know that because I used to have AVG on my old laptop, but I got rid of it.
I know most of the time, they leave behind traces in the registry and files left in the hidden folders I think. I don't know if it is or not. I had bought it in Feburary, March. I usually keep my antiviruses up to date. I could have installed webroot, but I hadn't because we had already bought norton, so there has only been 2.
Do you know if theres any way besides going into the registry to make sure mcafee is completely gone?
