Hey there,

As I logged into my computer this morning, my Anti-Virus software (McAfee) gave me this message...

"McAfee prevented a potentially unwanted program from running. Protect your PC by only allowing programs you trust.

About This Potentially Unwanted Program
Name: Adware-BProtect

Quarantined From: C:\ProgramData\WinSpeed\WinSpeed.dll"

It gives me the options to Remove, Allow, or simply Close. I have to assume that I don't want this PUP on my computer. I choose "Remove," but the message keeps popping back up. It is two files in particular, "WinSpeed.dll" and "WinSpeedsvc.dll". I tried to delete the file/folder, but it says that it is being run in another program, which it does not specify.

I've checked both my internet browsers and Task Manager for anything, and so far I haven't identified any programs or processes that are relative. There are two instances of "rundll32.exe" in my Processes, both without a Command Line and the Properties simply will not show up.

I did install two programs last night (Inkscape and GIMP 2), so I figure those had something to do with it.

I've been trying to figure out exactly what's going on. I've uninstalled the two programs from the Programs and Features area (Along with another program called something like "savenshop," which had been installed just today without my knowledge). In addition, when checking the Program Data folder, I found a few other folders that had been installed without my knowledge. I'm currently running a full scan with McAfee, but I figure if it can't deal with it after identifying it, that I must have to do something else. Would a System Restore help me here?

I'm also fairly new to this, so I'll post all the specs that I can. I don't know which ones are relevant.

Manufacturer: HP
Model: p7-1154

Processor: A6-3600 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 2.10 Hz

RAM: 6 GB

Operating System: Windows 7

System Type: 64-Bit

Anti-Virus: McAfee Total Protection

Let me know any information that might help. Thanks so much for your time!

Please run a Threat Scan with Malwarebytes (if possible)

Start Malwarebytes 2.0.........

Click on Settings > Detection and Protection > Non-Malware Protection > PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) detections > Make sure it's set to Treat detections as malware

Same for PUM (Potentially Unwanted Modifications)

Quarantine all that's found

Post the log

Then......

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) and save it to a folder.

(use correct version for your system.....Which system am I using?)

FRST64 <----for 64 bit systems

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button. (make sure the Addition box is checked)
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.
If the logs are large, you can attach them:

Removing malware can be unpredictable...unlikely but things can go very wrong! Backup any files that cannot be replaced. You can copy them to a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive
