Malware settings - cannot Enable protections

Recommended Posts

I cannot enable the Malware Protection nor the Malicious Website Protection radial buttons located in 'Settings'. Each time I Enable, reboot my system, it reverts back to Disabled.

My Dashboard screen indicates I am not fully protected for Real-Time. When I click on "Fix Now" no action takes place.

Hopefully there is a fix for this problem?

I followed all instructions and that seems to have fixed the problem. Malwarebytes is completely now functional.

However while attempting perform these instructions the task of unchecking "Enable self-protection module" caused a scary "Blue Screen" citing mbamchameleon.sys as the erring factor in a crash dump.

What is mbamchameleon.sys and why would it cause this sort of crash?

It's part of Malwarebytes and has caused the Blue Screen.

Maybe we should give the system a check for any malware:

Thanks, MrCharlie, for going through these log files for me.

Before I do anything I wish to state that I do not use Chrome nor have I ever knowingly downloaded this program. I did not know it was on my system!! I would like to delete all of this program which I hope is possible.

I see no evidence of Chrome in my Control Panel>programs and features

I have done a 'search' for programs and files and still do not find evidence of Chrome yet the FRST.txt file generated found these CHR references. I had downloaded the AVG anti virus trial program to scan my system a week ago but I deleted this trail verson shortly after its use. I did run a registry cleaner after that deletion.

I do not want Chrome. Since I do not have Chrome I cannot follow your instructions. What do you suggest, MrCharlie?

I have followed the instructions.

All protections have been reactivated and my system rebooted.

I see in the jrt.txt that many registry entries were deleted however I am unable to tell what these entries pointed to. Is there anyway of telling?

I ran FRST.exe (64) again (the older scan I renamed to preserve it) and this entry still exists. Trouble for me?

Why do I have Chrome entries at all? Is this merely a function of the use of Google?

I do indeed have Google Earth but have never downloaded and used Chrome.

I used the program link you provided "oldchromeremover' and Chrome was not detected.

I do have RealPlayer but it was present when I purchased this computer in 2009 and I am not sure if it is neccessary for certain parts of my hardware on this Toshiba unit. Else I would delete it. I have never actively used RealPlayer.

I have 2 plugin references listed in Firefox for Chrome as an install choice which I have not used.

I do have use often, SKYPE.

Thanks very much for your diligence on this issue MrCharlie (You area fellow Jerseyan - I was from The Oranges)

Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

---------->NOTE<----------

If you get the message Illegal operation attempted on registry key that has been marked for deletion after you run ComboFix....please reboot the computer, this should resolve the problem. You may have to do this several times if needed.

Good Morning MrCharlie

I ran the TDSSKILLER and no TDSS rootkits were found (I have a picture of the results but I do not know how to insert a picture here without saving it to a website first and entering a URL)

I did NOT, however, disable Malwarebytes when running TDSSKILLER. Should I have done this before running this program?

I have attached a copy of the report.

Should I run Combofix ?

I recently deleted Directvplayer using Control Panel>Programs and features yet it shows up in the report.

Combofix has been run.

The text file indicated 2 deletions although I am not sure if these were rootkits, virus, adware or.....??? Or if they could cause any troubles.

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((   Other Deletions   )))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

C:\Users\a505-s6030\AppData\Roaming\inst.exe
C:\windows\SysWow64\jgaw400.dll

====================================================

Interestingly, the folder Combofix, deleted itself as I was reading the combofix.txt report although the text file was saved outside of that folder.

Is there a way of telling if my system is now free of any malware? I'd like to create a Restore Point if it is.

Thanks again

Update and run a Threat scan with Malwarebytes.

Let me know how it is.

If there's no other problems.......

Lets check your computers security before you go and we have a little cleanup to do also:

Download Security Check by screen317 from HERE or HERE.

  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • If you get Unsupported operating system. Aborting now, just reboot and try again.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt.
  • Please Post the contents of that document.
  • Do Not Attach It!!!
