Malwarebytes Crashes as soon as it tries to update

Recommended Posts

I am a computer tech in Vermont and I have had this problem a few times recently. After installing and opening the latest version of Malwarebytes it tries to update and crashes saying "Malwarebytes has stopped working. Windows can check online for a solution to the problem." Windows doesn't find anything and so it closes. I've tried a variety of things including running mbam-clean.exe, running adwclean, running Superantispyware (which only finds tracking cookies.) If I remove the computer from the network such that automatic updating doesnt start, it runs and scans perfectly. It only crashes when trying to update. Any suggestions, please?

Hello and :welcome:

Have you tried the steps outline here: What to do: Runtime error - database stuck on 2014.03.04 - program stopped

That being said, the logs show this computer is infected, and I assume that's what your trying to do is clean it with Malwarebytes.

Being that the computer is infected, feel free to follow the instructions below to receive free, one-on-one expert assistance in checking your system and clearing out any infections and correcting any damage done by the malware.

Please see the following pinned topic which has information on how to get help with this: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers

Thank you

That suggested fix (I had tried to follow that "Net Conf Fix" procedure but the file was no longer available for download) allowed Malwarebytes to update itself. It is now scanning and finding the remaining garbage on the computer. When it has finished, if I run those logs again, what should I be looking for to have been removed? Thanks again, your help is greatly appreciated.

The computer has some PUP's (Potentially Unwanted Programs)

BrowserSafeguard

ShopperPro

Optimizer Pro

iWebar

Policy restrictions

Just to name a few... I strongly suggest you follow my instructions above in post #2 and get cleaned up... as we are not allowed to perform malware cleanup in this section of the forum.

Thanks again. Malwarebytes successfully updated and removed another 70 or so PUPs, etc.

Is it worth posting the logs again now that it has been cleaned? Which of those logs was most helpful in identifying the "badness" that was in that computer?

Again, your advice and direction has been extremely helpful.

The logs indicate there are still some issues. I would suggest following the advice from the topic here as Firefox recommended Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers and having one of the Experts assist you with looking into your issue.

We do not perform malware removal in this section of the forums. Please open a new topic as requested and a trained helper will help you one-on-one with your issues.

Thanks
