bogus Java update

Recommended Posts

Well done Malwarebytes.

I clicked on an Answer Now link, a sponsored link on the Yahoo home page. A page popped up telling me that I should update Java. It looked legitimate, kind of. It had the Java logo but it didn't look like the normal Java update message. I became suspicious and I didn't enable the update but I had started enough of the process that it attempted to load a bunch of crap on my machine. Malwarebytes detected it and stopped the infection. I haven't looked recently but the Answer now links with the bogus Java updates stayed up on Yahoo for at least two days.
