notification for updates

Recommended Posts

Every two or three months on both my computers when I get a notification for updates and you try and shut it off it won't stay shut off keeps popping up. I have to go to Task Manager and delete mbam.exe*32 then it's good for a few days, in time the few days turn into hours and I have to uninstall Malewarebytes and reinstall it. Both systems are Windows 7 64 bit so why is there a mbam.exe*32 in task manager?

This has been ongoing since the beginning of time lol.

I really like the program but what gives is there a fix or due around?

Agrafton

Hello agrafton and :welcome:

To indefinitely prolong the automatic major update of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) v1.75.0.1300 (PRO) to Malwarebytes Anti-Malware v2.0.2.1012 (Premium), please follow these instructions and refer to the jpeg attachment below:

Note well: Eventually MBAM v1.75.0.1300 database updates will no longer be available, automatically or manually. (approx. March, 2015)

If you have automatically upgraded to MBAM 2.0.2.1012 and you wish to return to MBAM 1.75.0.1300, please follow the MBAM Clean Removal Process 2.x with only the following exception:

Please download mbam-setup-1.75.0.1300.exe, from malwarebytes.app.box.com, and install but do not update the database yet. Instead:

  • Open the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (PRO) Graphical User Interface (GUI).
  • Single left-click the Settings tab. Submit the Settings Password if it's requested.
  • Single left-click the Updater Settings tab.
  • Un-check:
    • Download and install program update if available.
    • Notify me when a program update is ready for installation.
  • Close the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (PRO) GUI.
You may now update the database through the Windows System Tray: single right-click the MBAM icon, and single left-click Check for Updates. You may now customize your settings and add exclutions.

Re-checking the boxes above in step 4 will permit/re-permit automatic application program updates to MBAM2.

Please refer to the jpeg attached below.

If your system is running MBAM 2.x, I recommend you allow your system to update to v2.0.2.1012 as many fixes and improvements were made.

Thank you.

Thank you for the response, I'm momentarily confused here although this seem to be a work around but in the long run am I just prolonging the agony?

I'll wait and see what support offers and weigh out the options, will keep this post offline.

Thanks again, agrafton

Hi: :)

Until 1PW returns...
Yes, you are postponing the inevitable.
Support for 1.75, including database updates, will end in several months.
Moreover, version 2.0 offers a number of performance enhancements, such as: it has built-in rootkit scanning (1.75 does not); it has a new text parsing engine to address special threats targeted by using configuration files (1.75 does not); and it has built-in Self Protection (1.75 does not). It can also detect and remove some threats that 1.75 cannot because it offers native 64-bit support for 64-bit systems (1.75 does not).

If you are experiencing problems with version 2 on your systems, it would be advisable and preferable to permit the staff and experts to assist you with sorting them out now. Otherwise, when 1.75 support ends, you will be out of luck.

So, if you would like help with version 2, then we will need you to cleanly upgrade to version 2 on at least one system. :)
Then, if you have problems with it (updating or other features), we would need to see a bit of system information in order to diagnose and resolve it.

To that end, you might want to try the following steps on one system at a time:

  • Please follow the steps in this pinned topic to uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest build - MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
  • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)
  • NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here - Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
