Malwarebytes "this program is not working"

I have Malwarebytes Professional running on a Windows 7 64 bit system.

When I launch Malwarebytes I receive the standard MS warning - this program is not working.
I have tried to reinstall it. I deleted the program and then downloaded a new copy and installed it. During installation many many error codes came up.
I then installed a copy of Mbam on my USB stick and tried to run it from there. I still receive the same MS warning.

What am I up against? What is my solution? Can I run Malwarebytes on my PC in Safe Mode using the USB stick?

The computer I am working on is from Germany with a German language o/s but one can get the information out of the "View Details" list.

After 3 days of research on this troublesome problem with Malwarebytes not opening I have found my own solution. However I am puzzled as to why it worked.

After deleting my up-to-date version (2.0.2.1012) I installed an older version which was in my Downloads. Once the older version was installed it tried to update. As it updated I began to receive error codes. I stopped the updating and returned to the older version which worked quite well, scanning my system.

This puzzles me. Any ideas as to why this would occur?

Hello and :welcome:

  1. Please uninstall your current version of MBAM and reinstall the latest version. MBAM Clean Removal Process 2x
  2. If that does not correct the issue then please read the following and post back the requested logs. - Diagnostic Logs
  3. NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here: - Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

Next,

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system.
You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). Please copy and paste it to your reply as well.

SUCCESS! I ran the MBAM Clean Removal tool and that fixed the issue.

It is my belief that the large quantity of viruses I found on this computer (it belongs to my friend) perhaps corrupted the files. MSE could not remove the offending viruses. I then ran AVIRA which found and eliminated 111 adware, trojans and viruses. I then ran Kaspersky and it found 22 more adwares.

Once the system was clean I had hoped Malwarebytes would then load and run however there must have been bits of bytes left ... perhaps in the registry? The Clean Tool made the difference.

The new, fresh install of Malwarebytes even 'knew' it was a registered program!

It is currently running and has already found MORE 'detected items' .

I hope the details I have posted here will help others with a similar problem.
