Infected PC, But I can't install Malwarebytes because of runtime errors

Hi I have used Malwarebytes on many other PC but I have been tasked with the job of fixing my mother in-laws laptop and I am having trouble.

 

The laptop itself had a number of software that I wasn't happy with that I removed through add/remove programs on the control (Touch, Backup my PC)

 

I'm using Firefox on it as windows internet explorer doesn't open. It won't let me install a new version on IE either.

 

Windows won't install updates and Firefox doesn't update either.

 

I tried installing Malwarebytes but every time I tried it starts installing then a number of error messages appear the first being...

 

Runtime Error (at 69:252): External exception E06D7363

 

If I press ok and try to continue the install this error message appears

 

Internal error: Expression error 'Runtime Error (at 45:89): External exception E06D7363

the install then finishes but the program won't open and if I try I get

 

The exception unknown software exception (0x40000015) Orrurred in the application at location 0x72fad6fd

 

I have looked around the site for help and I have tired using mbam-clean to get rid of the failed install attempts which it does but it still doesn't let me install malwarebytes Please can you help me out as I have hit a brick wall and cannot think of how to get things working again,
