Mbam refuses to auto-update (update options turns blank)

Recommended Posts

I have Mbam 2.0.2.1012 installed which was updated from a 1.7xx installation having a Premium license.

At first, attempting an update crashed no matter what.

Support was not able to help me out here as the Anti Rootkit scanner does not work on my system either (also still has an open ticket)

After several weeks of no response from Mbam support, i checked upon my submitted ticket for this issue and it was closed as "Solved" so i decided to get the aid of Google which seemed to have done a much better support job leading me here:

https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/152047-what-to-do-runtime-error-database-stuck-on-20140304-program-stopped/

Now that i have it running, i can update it manually, but the automatic updates cease to update after a while. I'm not sure how long they run, i have set up the scheduler to run each hour.
On the bottom right a pop-up appears that the databases are out of date and when i open up the main MBam window, the update option is blanked out.

The update now button in the pop-up notifier makes the notifier disappear, but MBam does not update.

The Fix it Now button responses visually to the mouseclick but does not start the update routine.

The only solution here is to close and restart MBam and then restart the update.

Could it be that the hourly update stops working after 24 hours?

Hello lbsl and :welcome:

Let's start here:

  • Please try the following and let us know if this corrects your issue: MBAM Clean Removal Process 2.x.
  • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and individually attach the 3 requested logs in a reply to this thread: Diagnostic Logs.
  • The 3 files, from Step 2, to be individually attached from your desktop are: 1) CheckResults.txt 2) FRST.txt 3) Addition.txt. Please do not Copy and Paste them into a reply.
  • NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located in Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions.
Please let us know the status of your issue in a reply to this thread.

Thank You. :)

Hello and :welcome:

The greyed out Update now is usually due to one of the following, usually due to item #3 below

A couple of easy things to check:

>> 1. First, please be sure your system date/time are correct.

>> 2. Then, please be sure that your AV and firewall both give MBAM full permissions. It's possible that your AV or firewall might be treating the new build as a new program and may be blocking it -- the files that need to be excluded can be found =>HERE<=. Please post back if you need help with that.

>> 3. Also, please check to be sure there are no "Detected Threats" that need to be dealt with first, as this can prevent the program from updating: Click the "Scan" button at the top of the dashboard and verify that there are no detected threats (especially PUPs or PUMs) awaiting your actions.

If those suggestions don't resolve your issue: then by all means try the fresh reinstall method.

Thanks,
