malwarebytes stops scanning after 38 minutes

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My 8-year old Dell tower XP-machine is running very slow.

By slow, I mean it could take up to a minute to react to a command.

I'm not sure my problem is a virus or my 8-year old hard-drive.

For whatever it is worth mentioning, I have de-fragged the hard-drive several times.

With Malwarebytes scanning for 38 minutes, it shows 422919 objects scanned and found 877 detected.

Even though I let it scan for an additional 20 minutes, the quantity of objects scanned remains at 422919.

Is this an indication of where my problem is?

Should I run some other kind of test/check?

TIA for any help.

Hello and Welcome to Malwarebytes

Being that the computer is infected, that could definitely be why its running slow. The scan can take quite a while to complete since it has already detected at least 877 files. Just because the numbers are not going up does not mean its still not scanning. I had one the other day that took over 3 hours to complete the Heuristics scan portion, the numbers never changed until it was complete. You may try waiting for some time.

On a Dell computer you can always boot to the diagnostics and test your hard drive using the F12 Key.

That being said, since the computer is in fact infected, you may opt to get one on one help as mentioned below.

Being that you are probably infected, feel free to follow the instructions below to receive free, one-on-one expert assistance in checking your system and clearing out any infections and correcting any damage done by the malware.
