Potential Virus (or HW) issue. Can't Solve.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've been having a problem, and I think it is virus-related, but it may also be the cause of faulty hardware.  I don't know and would like some help diagnosing.  A little background:

A few days ago, I was playing games most of the day in a fairly hot room.  At the end of the night, my GPU started acting up.  My screen would split into two sections, and the left 1/3 of the screen would be shifted to the right side of the screen and the right 2/3rds of the screen would shift to the left, effectively swapping the positions.  After this started happening, I let my computer rest overnight.  The next day, I updated my video drivers and looked at the processes running on my computer and noticed one called atieclxx.  I attempted to kill it but was denied access.  This made me suspicious.  I ran a few virus scans but didn't find anything. Eventually I was able to find an alternative way to disable the process.  All seemed well the rest of the day.  The next day I ran into a few issues where my games would lock up while playing -- I wouldn't get any looping sounds, but the screen would just freeze with bars of a certain color. To fix, I would hard reset my computer.  Eventually, though, it seems my card (Sapphire 6950) gave out, as I couldn't get any video output on boot.  Upon opening the case, I saw a red light on my GPU indicating a failure.  Upon removing the GPU, I connected my monitor to my on-board video and everything seemed to work fine.  It seems that I fried my GPU.  Problem solved, right?

Wrong.

My computer has been sluggish since this thing began, and even as I'm typing now, my text is fairly laggy.  Whenever I attempt to stream video over my 15Mpbs connection, I have to wait for buffering like I'm on 56k.  Upon every boot, my computer is reporting that I have a floppy drive attached even though I don't.  My mouse clicks are laggy and unresponsive and often times highlight sections that I do not click.  My computer won't let me boot into safe mode unless I use bcdedit in cmd.exe.  At one point in safemode, I saw 2 crss.exe.

I feel that there is more here than a hardware issue.  Malwarebytes, MSE, SAS, and Spybot all report that I'm clean, but I am a novice at inspecting logs.  Please help!
