Cannot install MBAM

Recommended Posts

Cannot run the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool either. The message I get is that the version of program I'm trying to run is not compatible with the os.

This thing has got to be hosed. It's got a 450GB hdd and it's telling me that it's full.

What can I do now?

Hello,

They call me TwinHeadedEagle around here, and I'll be working with you.

Before we start please read and note the following:

icon_arrow.gif Limit your internet access to posting here, some infections just wait to steal typed-in passwords.
icon_arrow.gif Please be patient. I know it is frustrating when your PC isn't working properly, but malware removal takes time.
icon_arrow.gif Don't run any scripts or tools on your own, unsupervised usage may cause more harm than good.
icon_arrow.gif Do not paste the logs in your posts, attachments make my work easier. There is a Attach Files option below which you can use to attach your reports. Always attach reports from all tools.
icon_arrow.gif Stay with me to the end, the absence of symptoms doesn't mean that your machine is fully operational.
icon_arrow.gif Note that we may live in totally different time zones, what may cause some delays between answers.
icon_arrow.gif Do not ask for help for your business PC. Companies are making revenue via computers, so it is good thing to pay someone to repair it.
icon_arrow.gif If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.

icon_idea.gif I can't foresee everything, so if anything unexpected happens, please stop and inform me!
icon_idea.gif There are no silly questions. Never be afraid to ask if in doubt!

Good morning. Thanks for your help. This computer belongs to my brother, who lives 3 hrs away. He's got 2 computers, both whack. The one in question here is a Win7 machine, 64 bit, or so it says. 2G processor, 2G ram, 450G hdd.

I've tried both versions of farbar with no joy. I get that same message when I try to install MBAM.

I don't know how much I can do remotely. I've told him that I will probably have to get my hands on them to fix them.

I don't know if they have any P2P....I'll check next time I remote in.

They're running that Kaspersky internet security. What do you think about that. Typically I use MS Security Essentials and MBAM.....

Okay, we will have to work outside Windows. You will need access to another PC and USB Flash drive.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive.

  • Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.
  • Restart your computer and tap F8 to bring up the Advanced Menu, then click Repair your computer
  • Follow the prompt to enter keyboard input method, and then the prompt to enter a password. If the machine does not have a password, simply click Enter.
  • In the Choose Recovery Tool menu select Command Prompt.
  • You will see a big black window with a blinking cursor (command prompt).

notepad.png Access the notepad and identify your USB drive

In the Command Prompt please type in:

    notepad
    and press Enter.
  • When the notepad opens, go to File menu.
  • Select Open.
  • Go to Computer and search there for your USB drive letter.
  • Note down the letter and close the notepad.

FRST.gif Scan with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

Once back in the command prompt window, please do the following:

  • Type in e:\frst64.exe and press Enter.

You need to replace e with the letter of your USB drive taken from notepad!

  • FRST will start to run. Give him a minute or so to load itself.
  • Click Yes to Disclaimer.
  • In the main console, please click Scan and wait.
  • When finished it will produce a logfile named FRST.txt in the root of your pendrive and display it. Close that logfile.

Transfer it to your clean machine and include it in your next reply.
