ok things are getting wrose now , this is the second time i've done a clean instal of malware bytes and it still can't compelte a full system scan , i recall one of the times a scan was running before it got stuck it detected 26 items , but since it was stuck i couldn't do anything about it , then later i tried to scan parts of the computer indavidually , sometimes the scan would complete before it got frozen and others times it wouldn't , but i eventually scanned through all of my dirrectories and only ended up finding a couple things to be removed , so idk where those other detected items went....

and since then i now see my com showing clear signs of infection in my broswer certain text is being highlted as clickable links for spam now , i wasn't able to identify any processes in task that could be the cause of this , and i was able to run and complete full scans with other programs consisting of super anti spyware , mss and mmrt , which only super anti spyware found my browser coockies and i trojan i think it was and got those removed but it didn't fix either of these problems....

already tried running malware bytes in safe mode and the same result happened , gets stuck on a file and wont do anything else ever at all , tried leaving it alone for many hours to see if it would eventually get past whatever it was stuck on but it didn't.....

i so far have only tried running a licenced version of the program , doing custom scan to enable scannning for rootkits , why that isn't part of the default scan is byoned my.....

but so far it seems the program can never make it past 20 minutes of scanning before getting stuck....

so im at a loss of what to do now.....

Hello and Welcome to Malwarebytes

Sorry your having issues, it could very well be the infection that is causing all your issues.

Also Full Scans are normally not recommended as they will usually take a long time to run. A threat scan should be sufficient. That being said...

Being that you are probably infected, feel free to follow the instructions below to receive free, one-on-one expert assistance in checking your system and clearing out any infections and correcting any damage done by the malware.

Please see the following pinned topic which has information on how to get help with this: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers

Thank you

hah well looks like i wont be needing to do any of that (just like how i said that in that other thread right?)

i decided to look up the symptoms of my problem and found in mozila forums people saying to try starting firefox in safe mode see if the problem still happens , so i did and it didn't , then i go into my extensions to find.....

'>PrieCeeChhop
>SaVeMaSs

what the *********** doing in my addons list for firefox? how when where?......'

so i promptly deleted them and now no more highjacked text , so i guess i was clean after all , though the initial problem still remains that malware bytes gets stuck doing full custom scans , still don't see any answers for that......

First: please kindly refrain from using profanity, so that we can continue to help you here in this public forum.

As for the scans hanging or freezing (or appearing to do so), this could have many possible explanations: corrupt files, bad disk sectors, software conflicts with your AV, large file sizes, etc., just to name a few.

For the record, "full custom" scans are neither routinely needed nor recommended.  That is a task better suited to your anti-virus (AV).  As such, it will always be "slower" than the recommended Threat scan, which is the preferred type of MBAM scan.

You could try disabling both of these to see if they improve scan times:

  • Archive scanning
  • Rootkit scanning

>>>If that doesn't resolve your issue, then please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)

NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located here - Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions

Thanks,

if it was a corrupt file i would have seen it getting stuck on the same file and i would have gotten rid of it

i had already ran several chkdsks before doing all this which didn't find any problem , and a hdd scanning tool called western digital data lifeguard who's quick scan found no errors

already thought about the av conflicting as well , up until this point my av was the free avast , but i removed it and malware bytes still couldn't do it's full scan....

the files that the program happens to get stuck on are kilobytes in size...

maybe you missed that previous post , but i said the program finished a default scan and found no errors , that's the thing though i want it to scan my archives and for rootkits , it's like the only program i know that gives me the option to do such that isn't a solely rootkit scanning program which shows you everything your computer is doing which you then have to manually search the results which means you need to know everything about the computer to be able to find the problems , which i don't......

new development

so the program started to tell me that real time protection was turned off , so i clicked to turn it on but it just recycled the window , so i went into options to manually turn the website protection option on , but immediately after clicking it it reverted back to being off , i also found an option to enable scanning archives and rootkits i assume for the default scan , but it always wouldn't let me enable that as well only this time an error window popped up saying it was unable to enable the option and this may be due to rootkit activity , and it asked if i wanted to do a start up kind of scan where it would enable those features and try to find out what the problem was

so i told it to do that and then the com went to shut off , only it got stuck as well on the shutting down screen so i had to cut the power , thankfully the com didn't forget about the scan i just scheduled though so when i booted it back up it ran the scan and found a grand total of nothing

so now those features are enabled , but still i tried to run a custom scan and it got stuck just like before......

Hi, again:

Each computer is unique.

The behavior you describe can have many different causes with different solutions.

I'm afraid that, without a bit of basic system information, it's really impossible to say and impossible to provide definitive help.

It's entirely up to you.

But, once again, we'll ask you to please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt).

Those logs will assist the forum staff and experts with sorting out a cause and a solution.

Thanks,

I've asked one of our team members to take a look at your topic and assist you. He will also likely request some additional data/logs to try and track down the cause of the freeze during the scan as that's an issue we've been trying to fix but we have insufficient information on it at this time to do so.

Most likely a process dump of mbam.exe when the scan is stuck as well as a Process Monitor log of the scan (primarily of the portion of the scan starting a few seconds before it gets stuck and going on for a couple of minutes after it has gotten stuck). Those will tell us more about what mbam.exe (our scanner) is actually doing/attempting to scan etc. when it gets stuck and should help our Developers to track down and hopefully fix this problem once and for all in our next release.
