Computer boots without internet

Recommended Posts

Hello. I wanna ask a question.

Recently my computer had been booting up without connection to the internet. Unplugging my USB that connects me to the internet doesn't do anything but for some reason resetting the computer fixes it.

I did a scan of my computer for viruses, and other than a PUP that Malware advises me to ignore (PriceGong), I have nothing.

Is this the work of a computer virus or is it something more technical with my computer? Speaking of, my specs are as follows (if you're curious):

  • Version is Vista 6.0.6000 Build 6000
  • Processor is Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU @ 2.40GHz, 2400 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
  • BIOS Version is Phoenix Technologies, LTD 5.09, with the Date being 08/06/2007
  • System Model: GM441AA-ABA m8125x
  • System Manufacturer: HP-Pavilion

Hi:

Welcome.

First, I'm not sure what you mean by MBAM advising you to ignore a PUP?

Perhaps you have MBAM configured NOT to automatically treat as malware (quarantine) PUPs and/or PUMs?

There is more information about PUPs here: What are the 'PUP' detections, are they threats, and should they be deleted?

While they are not -- strictly speaking -- "malware", I wouldn't want any of that junk on my computers

And you might want to check to be sure your settings look like the attached screenshot.

As for your other issue, it's hard to say, but it could be hardware or software or any number of causes.

For starters, please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)

The experts may need additional data, but those logs will be good for starters.

Thanks,

The logs indicate that you may have an infection on the system.

I would suggest following the advice from the topic here Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers and having one of the Experts assist you with looking into your issue.

Basically create a new topic in the requested forum and post these same logs over there in the new topic and wait for help. Currently the wait time can possibly be up to 5 days due to high volume of requests for help.

Alright then. If it becomes a problem (I haven't gotten this problem again after I made this topic), I'll go over there, though with new logs mainly to not use old ones. Thanks.
