malwarebytes won't run on an infected computer

Recommended Posts

Hello,

They call me TwinHeadedEagle around here, and I'll be working with you.

Before we start please read and note the following:

icon_arrow.gif Limit your internet access to posting here, some infections just wait to steal typed-in passwords.
icon_arrow.gif Please be patient. I know it is frustrating when your PC isn't working properly, but malware removal takes time.
icon_arrow.gif Don't run any scripts or tools on your own, unsupervised usage may cause more harm than good.
icon_arrow.gif Do not paste the logs in your posts, attachments make my work easier. There is a Attach Files option below which you can use to attach your reports. Always attach reports from all tools.
icon_arrow.gif Stay with me to the end, the absence of symptoms doesn't mean that your machine is fully operational.
icon_arrow.gif Note that we may live in totally different time zones, what may cause some delays between answers.
icon_arrow.gif Do not ask for help for your business PC. Companies are making revenue via computers, so it is good thing to pay someone to repair it.
icon_arrow.gif If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.

icon_idea.gif I can't foresee everything, so if anything unexpected happens, please stop and inform me!
icon_idea.gif There are no silly questions. Never be afraid to ask if in doubt!

TwinHeadedEagle,

Thankyou for helping my with my malware problem.  I appreciate your help.

Downloaded and ran AdwCleaner.exe.  On the first attempt it did not run similar to MalwareBytes.exe not being able to run as described in my original post.  The second attempt was successful.

The logfile presented on reboot was not AdwCleaner[s0].txt but rather AdwCleaner[s1].txt

I found both log files in C:\AdwCleaner and have attached both for your use.

Thank you again for all your help.

Ran FRST with the fixlist.txt file as directed.  Fixlog.txt is attached.

Uninstalled and reinstalled MalwareBytes as directed.  This time I was able to start the software and complete a scan!  Found 150+ PUPs and quarantined them all.

Though you didn't ask, I ran a FRST scan again.  FRST.txt from this scan is attached.

Let me know if this completes the process or if there are further steps I need to take.

Thank you again for all your help.

Forgot to add the MBAM scan log.  It is attached as MBAM-scanlog_2014-07-25.txt

Question:

I noticed MBAM software is blocking actions from ZoneAlarm, a firewall application.  As my computer was infected, I can't confidently say the program is clean.  On the other hand, if this is a "false positive", there is a potential that my firewall software is being compromised by MBAM.  I would like to hear your feedback before taking further action on this matter.

Thankyou again for all your help.
