Mlawarebytes's malicious website protection not activating for some reason

Recommended Posts

Yep malicious web site protection will not activate. but malware protection does.

What happens is  this:

as soon as I place a check mark  beside enable malicious website protection,  I can watch the check mark disappear with in 4 seconds!  repeatedly this happens.

Yes I have a confirmed paid license. and ID  and key.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled  malwarebytes 6 times.  with no improvements.

I have installed  the next to last version of malwarebytes and still have the issue.

I have run MBAM check several times and all  reports  indicate all is well. ...how can that be?

I have run all types of scans. and nothing is found to be wrong.

I am running a HP tower in a home with no network and with windows XP  home edition V 2002   with Pentium 4 2.93 GHZ   and with SP3

At the moment malwarebytes is waiting for me to allow it to update to the latest version, but I am hesitating  to allow this  because, when I did  so 3 weeks ago,  I still had the same issue.  SO  I am  hoping to hear from some extreme experts here  who can advise me what to do before hand. For it has gotten extremely aggravating to uninstall and reinstall malwarebytes over and over again!..and there be no improvements.!

Eagerly awaiting your helpful replies.

  • The 3 files, from Step 2, to be individually attached from your desktop are: 1) CheckResults.txt 2) FRST.txt 3) Addition.txt. Please do not Copy and Paste them into a reply.
  • NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located in Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions.
Please let us know the status of your issue in a reply to this thread.

Hi, I am  trying to  get the scan results, but they are not appearing   and i am not able to save them. not one.  The scans will run, but the results will not save.  this goes for both FRST and MBAM check.    interesting  because months ago I ran these same scans and could read the results but not now. ???  I have the old scans from April of this year still available if your interested.  meanwhile know that I'm working on my end, to get the results posted here.

Hello flywelder:

The scans from April might not be informative now, but please retain them for historical purposes anyway.

I recommend following the advice from the topic: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers and have one of the Malware Removal Experts assist you with your issue.

If, as recommended, you do open a topic in Malware Removal Help, please make reference to this thread.

Thank you. :)

Hi,

I had the same issue. I have an administrator account and another user account on my laptop. To get rid of the problem I had to activate both of the real time protection settings first in the user account and then change to the admisistration account and activate them again. Sometimes a few tries were needed. Settings made only in the administrator account seemed not to stay.

Hello @Hannu:

We are disappointed to read your system is having issues. Each computer is unique. Problems that seem "the same" most often are not.

The same is true for solutions. They most often need to be individualized.

It is less confusing for everyone if we adhere to the "one user per topic" sub-forum policy.

Thanks to each of of you.  As a update. I have tried  activating the malicious web site protection in first the user account, ( but it will not stick, and quickly reverts back to unprotected, within 4 seconds)

I then did so in administrator , with the same results as user.  I did this 4 times. and no improvement.  While in administrator mode,  Malwarebytes  did upgrade and there were errors reported  and I made screen prints of those and will include them in my new posting topic as instructed  i do.

I hope I properly included the tags to  reference the earlier threads to this topic/issue.  Otherwise  search for topics started by flywelder.

I attached the screen prints of the errors malwarebytes popped up on this computer, and I had to zip them because they are too large to upload otherwise.  There are other errors with malwarebytes that appeared while using the admin settings, and I will post those also, but I have to sign off and out, and back on as admin  to do so.   I'll also hopefully be able to run the FSRT scans and post those results as well.  Please Stand by.

Eagerly awaiting your helpful replies.

Sorry, I am confused then as to waht was being asked of me to do,  again I appologize.  please  combine these for me.  thank you.

meanwhile here are the other screen prints.  and  make note that when  I was in the user account,  malwarebytes  open a window and  informed me    the anti rootkit DDR did not acxtivate and to do so I would need to reboot the computer.  (This notice is in one of the screen prints.)  I choose to do  the reboot and when I did  another window opened and stated that  an eror 20023  had accurd.

I was not able to get a screen print of the 20023 error becasue the computer was shutting down to reboot.

Here is an update. I've been attempting to  run scans  and download FRST and  MBAM scan etc that you have asked for  while I'm logged in as administrator. .....Unfortuanlty for some reason I can not. ??  and All the downloads have failed!????  They will not download succesfully to iether 'Downloads'  or to the desk top??

Plus while in Admin., I can not access the  programs you want me to run, that did download successfully to my user account????

and while in Admin.,  I cannot access the screen shots  that I made while in user mode !????

Maybe this is normal????....

oh the frustrations!

Oh and while Im in Admin.,   Malwarebytes  is still not fully active.  When I click to activate maliciouse web site protection,  there is  a 4-5 second pause, then  it swithces to full protection, then within 2-3 seconds it switches back to  malicious web site protection is  inactive. ????

Does the pausing, indicate anything to you?

Try downloading the tools you will need on another computer and put them on a flash drive to transfer on this computer your working on so you can run FRST....

If after that you can not run the tools then you will have to get one on one help..., feel free to follow the instructions below to receive free, one-on-one expert assistance in checking your system and clearing out any infections and correcting any damage done by the malware.

Please see the following pinned topic which has information on how to get help with this: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers

This is An update. this is Monday 8-04-2014.

I was able to finally get the scans  to run.  I have attached the logs.

Something else you should know, is MBAM is repeatedly announcing  that  a error has occurred with the Root kit DDA driver.

It wants me to reboot the computer, so I do.  and then what I just explained  happens all over again.

I made a screen print of that error announcement,  and attached it  below.

Anything  attached,  that you see zipped,   is a screen print of what I'm seeing on my monitor,  and zipped because it will not upload any other way.  ( due to its size)

I'm not certain what version numbers they were,  But I can say for certain that I have had the newest and latest versions, and this problem still  existed/continued.

As  I have been doing,  ...is it ok to attach the screen prints of messages malwarebytes puts on my monitor when something fails?...do these not help the experts trying to assist me?

Would disabling 'self protection"  help?

It should not be a matter of self protection, but you can disable that for now to eliminate it as a problem.

You provided logs for version 1.75, are you currently on version 1.75 or on version 2.0?

Let's try this first, to get a good starting point and to get version 2.x installed cleanly, then if it fails, provide the three logs (so they will be current, make sure to put a checkmark on the FRST tool for addition.txt)....

Thank You,

  • 1 month later...

I'll try to better ex-plane.  malwarebytes  'control panel'  is what I'll call it,  you can better see and understand what I am referring to by looking at the attached screen prints.

(malwarebytes  9-29-2014  and  malwarebytes protection enabled  9-29-2014)

the screen prints after the above two,  are from earlier scans  should you wish to view those.

but it won't update the data base and it won't fix itself.

by the way,  I have 3 computers, each with paid up malwarebytes installed, and each is having similar issues.   ...its crazy!

For now I'll  describe the events of one computer:  A Dell with OS: Windows 7 Service Pack 1

when I go into malwarebytes and click on  settings  and detection and protection, I find that "malware protection"  and "malware site protection"   have both been disabled, but not by me!

So i enabled them....again.  yes this has been happening for weeks now.

But the control panel ( with the big " fix now button" )  still says the system needs  fixed. ????

Plus, clicking on the "update now " button, seems to do nothing.  because nothing moves any more like it did before, when it would update.        help please.

Info on the The computer in question :

OS: Windows 7 Service Pack 1

Yes it is happening with Version  2.0.2.0.1012   data version  2014. 9.27.2

I can run scans.  I can even run Chameleon. and it says it updated the data base.    all scans end with no infections found.

1) So why does the protection click off on its own?

2)  and why do I continually get malwarebytes pop up alerts  that malwarebytes  database is out of date?     ( every 2 mins!)

3) from the dashboard,  clicking on update, starts the update process. but with in seconds it ends saying  it can not access the update server.

4)  and I have been experiencing the issue of unable to access the update server for a week now.

This computer is using Comodo CIS.

I have placed every MBAM file and folder I can find into either safe, trusted, or excluded  section of Comodo,   and still have these issues!

I Didn't have these issues with Malwarebytes  before I started this post though.  so  what part of MBAM has gone bad?

Now today, my other computer in the house, and running windows XP  pro V.2002   with SP 3  is having this same issue with updating?

5)  I have run MBAM check and can't attache the results.  the file is huge.   Ill try and post it below.   and at the end of the report  are the words unable to access quarantine info, error code 20002

Help some one please.

Signed,

 Desperate flywelder
