What Have You Done?

Recommended Posts

I have had no problems until today when I updated Malwarebytes to the latest version.

The scan runs to 347494 files and stops ever time I run it. It says it found 43 PUPS every time I run the scan but I looked in the Quarantine folder and they are all there.

I have had several times it would not even open. I had to restart the computer to get it working.

There used to be a quick scan and I don't see it anymore.

If the latest version has problems can I uninstall it and reinstall the old version which worked flawlessly?

Bob.

Hello and Welcome to Malwarebytes

Version 2.x has more features and a better scanning engine, including rootkit scanning, could account for why you are now detecting new items...

Being that you are probably infected (since you keep getting 43 items detected), feel free to follow the instructions below to receive free, one-on-one expert assistance in checking your system and clearing out any infections and correcting any damage done by the malware.

Please see the following pinned topic which has information on how to get help with this: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers

Scan Types in version 2.x have been renamed....

More info on the different type of scans can be found here: What are the different scan options in Malwarebytes Anti-Malware?

Thanks.

Thank you

Thanks. Is there any way to delete Version 2 and go back to the old version which worked great for years? This version 2 is terrible. You can't pause or stop the scan when it hangs. It has hung up on wav fiiles from Flight Simulator X which are not malware. You have to use CTL-ALT-Del which sometimes works and sometimes does not. If you finally get it stopped it will not start again until the computer is rebooted. Yesterday it searched all files ok and hung up on heuristics (whatever they are). I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it three times. Sometimes it passes by a file and hangs somewhaere else and the next time it hangs on a file which it said was OK before. I see all kinds of others that have these problems. Can't you delete Version 2 until it's fixed and allow us to use the previous version which never had all these problems? Regards, Bob.

Hi:

Until @Firefox returns....

If you are infected, as you mentioned in the original post, with 43 or more detections, then the first priority really needs to be getting cleaned up.

The infections may be at least partially interfering with the smooth operation of MBAM v.2.

While it is not recommended to revert back to MBAM 1.75, it can be done, and we will be happy to advise you how to do that.

However, trying to uninstall/install security software on a computer that is already infected can be problematic and unsuccessful.

That's why @Firefox advised you to start first with getting free, expert help for cleanup.

After that, we would be happy to work with you to get MBAM v.2 working well on your system.

If you really want to go back to 1.75 for the next several months, while it is still supported, then we could assist with that, too, if you prefer.

It's entirely up to you, and these are just suggestions. :)

But, we would respectfully suggest that you take advantage of the free, expert help with a malware cleanup first.

To do that, please follow the advice in this pinned topic: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers.

A malware expert will help you, for free, one-on-one, with looking into your issues and removing malware.

Thanks,

Thanks. Can anyone explain why the old version, which was run the day before it upgraded to 2.2, did not ever have any problems or find any infections?

I have run it about ten times and now I am down to six suposed infections. It still hangs up in the middle when doing the heuristics scan. I can't pause or stop the scan. CTRL-ALT-DEL does nothing. I have to reboot. Regards, Bob.

BobFam, your computer is infected! Cleaning up a computer is not done in this section of the forum. This is mainly done due to all the tools that need to be run in order to get cleaned up. Only trained experts and personnel are authorized to provide such help. You will have to seek help from that section of the forum from one of those experts to get further assistance.

That being said, it is strongly suggested you get some help from these experts.

Please see the following pinned topic which has information on how to get help with this: Available Assistance for Possibly Infected Computers

Thank you
