Malwarebites turned off my computer without warning

Recommended Posts

Let me check around.  You can control whether a restart occurs upon detection in a scheduled scan, but that should not occur as part of real-time protection.  By the way, I will be moving this thread over to the MALWAREBYTES ANTI-MALWARE HELP subforum, because it is not related to the Secure Backup product.  I'll get back to you in a few minutes on that subforum.

Sorry for delay.  I checked with several QA staff to see if there are any outstanding bugs related to restarts as a result of detection during real-time protection.  They all believe that you were running a scheduled scan, and that you had configured the computer to restart to remove a threat.  To confirm that, go to AUTOMATED SCHEDULING, click on THREAT SCAN (or whichever scan would have been scheduled to run at the time in question), then EDIT.  The EDIT SCHEDULE window will open.  Click ADVANCED at the bottom left of that screen, and look at SCHEDULE OPTIONS in the left center of that window.  Your answer should be there.

If the system is infected, it's possible that when Malwarebytes Anti-Malware was removing the threat, another component of the threat forced the system to shut down in order to prevent removal. I'd recommend performing a Threat Scan with rootkit scanning enabled as described here to verify that no threats remain on the system. If there are any other strange symptoms or behaviors that you notice with your system, I'd recommend contacting our Support team here or following the instructions here and creating a new topic in that forum to receive one on one expert assistance in checking the system for threats and getting it cleaned up if any are found.
