I had MBAM stop working on startup at some point since my last scan. I did not know I was unprotected and this allowed Rocket malware to try to install on my system. I had to resort to old method of kill the network to stop the install. Only then did I find out that my MBAM would not start. I searched for the runtime error and was able to get it working again but it is a concern for me that I did not know it was not working.

So please consider this as a request for an option (default on) of a splash notification to confirm protection is actually working on startup. If it doesnt boot on startup it will not notify me to update either!

Thanks

Hi:

Some users prefer things one way, while others prefer it the other way. :)

Until the product team has a chance to weigh in, it seems that the overall trend among security apps in recent years has been to run "silently" and "in the background", when things are OK on the system.

With the update from MBAM 1 to MBAM 2, for example, scheduled clean scans and updates are now "silent" and less obtrusive.

Having said that, it is important to know when things aren't working properly.

The program will, of course, notify the user upon start up (or at any time) if there is a *problem*, e.g. "protection disabled", databases outdated, scan detections, etc. (see screen shots from the user guide).

The product team has promised better notifications and better control over them with a future release.

The suggestion for a splash screen OPTION is a good one that will be likely be popular with many users. :)

Thanks for your feedback.

Cheers,

I like the images but the point of my post is that if MBAM is uninstalled by the NSA how will I know unless a popup of confirmed protection did not display?

Notification of an issue or update failure is fine but what if the malware defeats the protection entirely? Like MBAM is uninstalled or totally blocked? How will I know unless I fail to see and confirm/close a notification that the protection is working on startup?

See the difference?

I plan to change it so that eventually a captcha will be required when uninstalling the product. This will prevent malware from attempting to uninstall it from a user's system. I'd prefer not to have a splash screen as I personally find them annoying. When I boot my computer I just want to get to using it, not wait while countless splash screens for startup applications load.

That would be good... No that would be GREAT! But why not allow us to choose the splash screen option too (default off is okay too)?

That's the method the KL removal tool (kavremover.exe) uses.

A plain uninstall can be done in the usual Windows way from CP, but the removal tool does use a captcha.

LOL!

You had at least one forum member worried behind the scenes.

(And I guess that @MCFatTongue might have fallen for it, too.)

We were about to roll out some Reynolds Wrap for you!

A captcha would be a great idea! :)
