My version of:-

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2.0.2.1012

© Malwarebytes Corporation. All rights reserved.
Build Date: 13/05/2014

After I check/select the box to 'Check for Updates' everyday, the check/tick icon disappears from the box  the next time I turn my laptop on.

The system tray Malwarebytes icon has an exclamation mark on it and I then have to update manually and then re-tick the box again, in the

hope that the scheduler will function automatically.

But no................ Next time I start up the laptop, the exclamation mark is proudly displaying itself on the Malwarebytes tray icon, then i go

through the whole above procedure again.

My question is:- What is causing the removal of my check mark, from the 'Check for Updates' box?

Hello and :welcome::

Hmm, well that behavior you describe -- scheduler settings not "sticking" -- doesn't sound normal.
Let's try this first -- when you perform the clean reinstall in step #1, please be sure you are logged into Windows from an Admin-level user account, and please be sure to reboot the computer when prompted:

Thank You,

Hi, again:

I think I may have at least partially misunderstood your post (thanks to both @gonzo and @Firefox for pointing this out ;) ).

As you can see from the attached screen shot, the "Select" column is present in the scheduler window ONLY if the user wants to REMOVE a task.

(Placing a check mark in that column enables the "Remove Task" button.)

IOW, that box is not supposed to stay "checked". It is only manually checked (enabled) by the user in order to remove a task from the scheduler.

To EDIT a task, just click on the task (whether it's an update check or a scan) to highlight/select it; that will enable the "EDIT" button.

Having said that, you report that there is an exclamation over your MBAM system tray telling you that your databases are out of date?

Is that correct?

If you are being notified that your databases are out of date, then I think we will still need to try some basic troubleshooting.

It could be something wrong with your settings, something blocking the updates, malware, etc.

A couple of easy things to check:

>>First, please be sure your system date/time are correct.

>>Then, please be sure that your AV and firewall both give MBAM full permissions. It's possible that your AV or firewall might be treating the new build as a new program and may be blocking it -- the files that need to be excluded can be found HERE. Please post back if you need help with that.
>>Also, please check to be sure there are no "Detected Threats" that need to be dealt with first, as this can prevent the program from updating: Click the "Scan" button at the top of the dashboard and verify that there are no detected threats (especially PUPs or PUMs) awaiting your actions.

>> Finally, you might want to start with the advice in this pinned topic >>HERE<< -- we don't have enough info to know if it will work for you (but it won't hurt).

If those suggestions don't resolve your issue:

Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks!

Okay, I have re-scheduled the Update task, WITHOUT the box being checked this time, and will see what happens tomorrow when

I re-start my laptop.

Just as a matter of interest; why does MB Premium not update itself automatically, without user input?

My old 11 year old FREE Malwarebytes used to warn me to check for updates, but I would have thought

the paid Premium version would do all this for me. My Avast! Pro certainly does and the little 'pop-up' telling

me that it has performed this task, I find very comforting and reassuring.

Anyway, let's see what happens tomorrow and I will get straight back to you.

Hi:

Just as a matter of interest; why does MB Premium not update itself automatically, without user input?

MBAM 2 Premium ABSOLUTELY DOES update itself automatically without user input, when it is properly configured.

In fact, the default settings in version 2 are for hourly update checks and daily Threat scans, all of which would run silently and automatically.

There have been 2, SHORT, isolated interruptions at the update servers over the past couple of days. HOWEVER, these would not account for the behavior you report.

I suspect that there may be something "off" with your settings or a firewall block, or perhaps you did not install the program from a Windows Admin-level account?

The most efficient way to know for sure what might be happening is to obtain some information about your system.

Please read the following and post back attached to your next reply the 3 requested logs - Diagnostic Logs (the 3 logs are: FRST.txt, Addition.txt and CheckResults.txt)

The logs will help us to help you get MBAM up and running properly.

Thanks,

Okay daledoc1, I have carried out your first suggestion to my MB issue and I have to say................... YOU'RE A DIAMOND !

Everything with MalwareBytes is now up and running as designed, perfectly.

:P Please kill me a curiosity though, how come I don't see HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

in my Registry anymore? Don't explain if it jeopardises the program in anyway, who knows who is watching this thread.
