Hi,

This is my first post here. I used the search function to try to find a thread describing a similar problem, but could not find quite the same thing.

Anyway, a few days ago, my wife was browsing the web, and an AVG Anti-virus alert came up (she was on Facebook and Gmail at the time). She accidently closed AVG, but re-opened it, and ran a full scan. AVG said that the threat was removed.

Then we discovered that out internet access through Opera, Firefox, and IE was blocked. She rebooted, ran a Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (free) 2.0.2.2012 (free version). It it did not find anything (however, it was not able to update the database: "unable to access update server")

The PC is a relatively new Asus Windows 8.1 machine, and is connecting through wi-fi. We are definitely connected, because we are able to watch Netflix through the Netflix app. It is just that web browsers do not work.

I have gone through all types of suggestions including checking to make sure we are not connected to an unwanted proxy, starting in safe mode with networking, etc. None of these solve the problem.

I suspect the issue may be with our IP address, but our laptop connecting through the same wi-fi/wireless router works fine.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Kevin

Very sorry for the delay. The site has been very busy and there has been more demand for support than we were able handle for a while there.
I'm just now getting back to see if you still need help or not. If you do please reply back and let me know and I'll go ahead and assist you.

Thank you
