BSOD KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED and IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Recommended Posts

This topic is a continuation of https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/150710-mbam-2021012-bsods-kmode-exception-not-handled-and-irql-not-less-or-equal-on-a-truecrypt-partition/

To summarize: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit, running on a 2nd gen (Sandy Bridge) Intel Core i7 laptop.

After reading the reply posted before the topic was locked, I decided to run multiple virus scanning/removal programs, including Windows Defender (as I am on Windows 8.1 Pro x64), AdwCleaner, HitmanPro, and Junkware Removal Tool. (I couldn't use ComboFix b/c that wasn't compatible with 8.1.) None of these tools detected an infection.

I decided to try Windows 8.1's built-in refresh feature, basically resetting all programs and settings, but retaining my files and data. I installed TrueCrypt and MBAM 2.0.0.1012 and ran a Custom Scan with ART disabled in both the settings panel and in the options before running a custom scan. BSOD again, same error.

Today, after reinstalling most of my programs and fixing settings here and there, I installed MBAM 2.0.0.1012 and ran it again. Still gets a BSOD.

I've tried replicating this error on other versions of Windows (Windows 7 x32 and x64, Windows 8 x32, and Windows 8.1 x32 and x64) in VirtualBox, installing only Windows Updates, TrueCrypt, and MBAM. The BSOD doesn't occur on virtual hardware. I have no access to any physical computers to try and replicate this on other Windows versions.

Attachments: FRST/mbam-check logs from 7-4 which is immediately after refresh; 7-6 which is today after restoring most drivers and programs. I have the full memory dumps but can't attach them here b/c they are 600+ MB in size.

Hello and welcome back:

It appears from your earlier topic that our forum Root Admin, AdvancedSetup, had suggested seeking expert assistance from our malware experts.

We cannot do the in-depth work on a complicated problem here in this section of the forum.

So, I suggest that you please start a NEW, separate topic -- with these same logs -- in the Malware Removal section of the forum >>HERE<<.

One of the experts will assist you with looking into your issue.

You may wish to include a reference back to this post:

https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/152116-bsod-kmode-exception-not-handled-and-irql-not-less-or-equal/

Please be patient, as it may be 48 hours before an expert becomes available to pick up your topic.

Thank you,
