Can Malwarebytes prevent a browser from being hijacked

Recommended Posts

Since the post offended I guess you closed it so I couldn't anwer it.-Your loss!

You claim that Malwarebytes will detect any malware, including those that are already on the computer Tuvaro Has been around a while. If in fact you update many times a day, You should have found a way to detect it by now.

I did a full scan several times. With fresh updates to the database. The Tuvaro search bar never appears. I don't use IE. Tuvaro or search.net never appears in either Programs and Features or in Total Uninstall. It doesn't appear with Opera so I use that and   I have to run Chrome from a batch file. I am whipped and discouraged enough just to sell the computer and go back to watching television(shudder). Every time I do a search for removing Tuvaro  I see posts about people trying to remove Tuvaro and find that the OP's have abandoned the effort or that people post solutions that don't work, like the link you posted.

I really would like to see a copy of the last scan logs.   Attach them into a reply.

I need the most current one that starts with the name mbam-log-2014    ( with the latest time & Date stamp)
If you are on Version 2.0 of our program, the log will be under this folder  with an XML extenstion
C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\Logs

If you want continued help, I will need more information beyond the above.

Starting with, Which browser do you use ?

Is that the one where Tuvaro shows ?  yes / no ?

Download and SAVE Shortcut Cleaner to your Desktop from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/shortcut-cleaner/dl/172/

Now, Close all of your internet browsers before running the tool.

On Windows 7 / 8 / Vista, do a Right-click on it and select Run as Administrator.
On Windows XP, double-click to start.

When all done, Copy & Paste the contents of "sc-cleaner.txt"into a reply.

If you have a 64-bit Windows then get this tool

Download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT)
from http://images.malwareremoval.com/random/RSITx64.exe
and save it to your desktop.

OR

If you have a 32-bit Windows then get this version

Download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT)
from http://images.malwareremoval.com/random/RSIT.exe
and save it to your desktop.

THEN run the RSIT tool and get reports for my review:

Start on RSIT.exe   Do a RIGHT-Click on RSIT and select Run as Administrator and allow to run.
Accept the disclaimer:
Click "Continue" at the disclaimer screen.
Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please attach the logs in your next reply:
both "log.txt" (<<will be maximized) and "info.txt" (<<will be minimized)

NEXT:

Download OTL by OldTimer to your desktop:
http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.exe

Close all open windows on the Task Bar. Then run OTL
(for Vista, or Windows 7 or 8 Right click the icon and Run as Administrator) to start the program.

In the lower right corner, checkmark "LOP Check" and checkmark Purity Check".
Now click Run Scan at Top left and let the program run uninterrupted.  It will take about 4 minutes or so.  In any event, have lots of infinite patience.

It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up called OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your desktop and called Extras.txt.
Exit Notepad.  Remember where you've saved these 2 files as we will need both of them shortly!
Exit OTL by clicking the X at top right.

Download Security Check by screen317 and save it to your Desktop: http://screen317.spywareinfoforum.org/SecurityCheck.exe
Run Security Check
Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the command window.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; close Notepad.  We will need this log, too, so remember where you've saved it!

Then attach the following into your post     ( you may use separate posts as needed --- but always ATTACH them )
OTL.txt
Extras.txt
checkup.txt

This tool will collect some information on the installation of Malwarebytes and create a report I need to review: .
Download mbam-check.exe and save it to your desktop    from  http://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mbam_check
On Vista/Windows 7, 8, Right-click on mbam-check.exe & select Run as Administrator & allow to Run when prompted by User Account Control.
On XP,Double-click on mbam-check.exe to run it.

Do have patience while the tool runs.  It may take a while, and will flash a command prompt window.  And then it will start your text editor ( default is typically NOTEPAD).

It should then open a log file CheckResults.txt.  Just do a File >> Exit in NOTEPAD.
You should attach the CheckResults.txt  file located from _your desktop_ so that I can review.

BTW:  I did "not" <<claim that Malwarebytes will detect any malware>>.  What I said was that the program will remove all that it DOES detect and remove them.   That the program is free to get and use;  and that the free-mode program does remove any items it "tags".

Unlike others that make you buy the program first.
