In the event viewer, there is a appcrash that says rundll32.exe_aepdu.dll and the faulting module is ole32.dll.

does anyone know what this error is cause by? I checked the time of the error and it seem to be at the same time the internet was disconnected.

The first DLL (Dynamic Link Library) referenced belongs to the Microsoft Program Compatibility Assistant. The faulting module is a common DLL used by many programs and functions of Windows. If I had to labor I guess I'd say that some program that you have set to run in compatibility mode in some manner (e.g. compatibility mode for Windows XP, always run as administrator etc.) was probably trying to update its database of compatible/incompatible programs or something similar and logged the error since it could not connect to the internet.

If the error hasn't come up again I wouldn't worry about it. If it comes up frequently or you are having other issues with your PC that appear to be related then I'd suggest contacting Microsoft Support so that they can walk you through troubleshooting steps and hopefully resolution for the issue(s).
