MBAM Database not updating

Recommended Posts

Hello dhufstader:

We also really need to analyze the requested Log Set 1 by running mbam-check.exe, from your desktop, and attaching the diagnostic output text file CheckResults.txt in a reply to this thread.

Thank you. :)

The logs indicate that you're running both McAfee and Norton antivirus or at least one of them was not fully removed.

Which one is your installed antivirus that you're wanting to use?

What Firewall are you using and did you setup an exclusion for it?

Hi:

I bought a new laptop and it came with mcafee, I ran all the uninstall options it gave me, it shouldn't still be installed, it doesn't show in my start menu or CP.

Norton is my preferred.

Your logs definitely show McAfee leftovers.

It can be a pain to fully uninstall.

You'll probably need to run their removal tool, perhaps more than once and perhaps even once from Safe Mode, rebooting each time: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

I'll now turn you back over to @1PW and @AdvancedSetup.... ;)

Cheers,

I run norton internet security 2014 on all my systems, I have never had to make changes to it to get MB to work or update.

that being said, I checked it in the firewall settings and mbam.exe and mbamservice.exe are both set to "allow"

MB is connecting and updating, it just doesn't know it has.  I can click fix, it connects, it downloads, it shows that it has the current version is installed, yet still says it is out of date.  if I click update again, then it says there is no update available

@DH

Let me suggest you do a new Threat scan run ( click Scan icon and then start Threat scan)  and make certain that you have dealt with all items detected.

That is to say, remove all items that it tags.

Then, at the end of the scan, and by the way, copy and paste ( or attach) the log in a reply.

After making sure all outstanding items are taken care of, you may then click the Update now link off the Dashboard screen.

Lastly, as a FYI:

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware works well and should run alongside antivirus software without conflicts. In some rare instances, exclusions may need to be set for your specific antivirus product to achieve the best possible system performance.
I suggest putting in trust settings in your antivirus, as follows:
Please "put as Trusted" (i.e., put Trust settings) for the following MBAM exe files within your Antivirus Software whitelist :

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in "Windows Firewall" you'll need to exclude them from it as well

For 32-bit Windows Vista or Windows 7 or Windows XP:

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamscheduler.exe

For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7 or Windows 8:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamscheduler.exe

Note: If using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall you'll need to exclude MBAM.EXE and MBAMSERVICE.EXE from it as well

Note: Once that's done, please make sure that if either of those programs has any sort of web filter, that you add the following as a trusted site:
data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

Check your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security application to see if you can add exclusions for specific applications/files to ignore.
You may need to contact their technical support or check their support website for instructions.
You will need to set your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security to ignore/exclude the files I listed above.

there are no pending threats, I have scanned, checked, rescanned and checked again.

I have installed this in similar systems several times (win8x64 and win7x64 with NIS2014) and never had an issue or jump through any hoops to get it to work.

the firewall is NOT blocking it.  it will phone home and download updates no problem, if the database is current per the server, then it tells me there is no update available, but it just still keeps saying it is out of date.

whatever part of the software that checks if the DB is current is having an issue.

This is just a suggestion, maybe your MBAM is a little wonky, why not try a clean install as mentioned below.

Also after your run the steps recommended by Daledoc1, then repost some fresh logs if the clean install does not help.

You'll probably need to run their removal tool, perhaps more than once and perhaps even once from Safe Mode, rebooting each time: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

Let's try this first....

Thank You,
