Frequent update notifcations that dont go away

Recommended Posts

I have been getting frequent update notifications the only go away after clicking "Update now" twice.  These popups pop up several times within an hour and are very annoying; especailly when clicking them does not causes no update.

post-168169-0-11820600-1404410164_thumb.

I removed Malwaerbytes, dl'd it again and re-installed it.  I thought it odd that keycode entered automatically; when I started the newly installed program; since I'd removed the program before installing it again.

I can't figure out what's goin on; can someone help?

Hello and :welcome:

Thanks

You need to perform a scan, then you have to tell Malwarebytes to remove the PUP. If you look at your screenshot it shows that you have not taken any action on the item detected.

My question is how do I know what action to take.  Is this particular PUP something I would be advised remove; no quesitions asked, or is it something I should considering allowing?

Hello mikecox:

The other issue you posted today should be dealt with first. Only with its successful conclusion should you then start here:

  • Please try the following and let us know if this corrects your issue: MBAM Clean Removal Process 2.x.
  • If that does not correct the issue, then please read the following and attach the 3 requested logs in a reply to this thread: Diagnostic Logs.
  • The 3 files, from Step 2, to be attached from your desktop are: 1) CheckResults.txt 2) FRST.txt 3) Addition.txt. Please do not Copy and Paste them into a reply.
  • NOTE: There is an FAQ section with valuable information located in Common Questions, Issues, and their Solutions.
Please let us know the status of your issue in a reply to this thread.

Thank You. :)

The one in question in your screenshot you want to remove, do not allow it. It is a PUP, meaning potentially unwanted program. It is usually bundled with something else you may have downloaded and installed, most likely without you knowing it was going to be installed.

Thanks for the update.  I will remove it, as you have suggested.

Hello Mikecox,

Thats awesome screenshots. :)

(1)

Can you please double-check your system clock and be certain the Date is all correct (  month + day + year).

(2) Please do post the diagnostic reports as 1PW asked.

(3) Do you have or have you had, "Self protection" on in MBAM ?       ( Settings >> Advanced Settings )

Are you logged in with administrator rights?

Have you --- first tried to start the MBAM by doing a Right-click on the desktop shortcut-icon and selecting Run as Administrator ?   ( That is if your Windows is Window 7 or 8 or Vista )  ( If XP systems then ignore, but you do have to login to Windows with Administrator-level rights ).

@ Mikecox,

I have merged your two threads.  They -do- belong together, as the basic source of the current "iissue" is most likely the need to currently cure / fix / and clear any unresolved items that needed Action for removal.

That's to say:  If there are any outstanding ( old ) scans that were not fully cleaned, action on those must be done first ---- before the Update issue  --- and that is what's holding things up.

As you go along, stay with this thread until all issues are resolved.

Thanks for this information; I have saved it for future reference. Once I dealt with the issue you referred to I no longer got those frequent update notices and popups didn't pop up twice when I clicked on them.  I think the prloblem in resolved. :D

 Thats awesome screenshots. :)

Thanks,  "a picture is worth a thousand words" so I make a point of making screenshots that clarfy my issue.

As you may have seen, my issue was resolved.

As for questions about my system; as soon as I am allowed to create a sig I will add that information to it.
